In his Advent message, Moderator Richard Bott reminds us that for everything there is a season. Advent and Christmas will be different this year. We will need to keep our physical distance and cover our faces. Perhaps the distance this pandemic brings can allow us to prepare our spiritual life for the coming of the Christ child. One step at a time. Each in its own order. There is a time for everything. https://youtu.be/LABIYLZWtr8... #UCCan #Advent2020 #UCCanCOVID19

Out of an abundance of caution, we will be worshipping online only this Sunday, November 22, 2020. We understand this will disappoint some but please know this decision is triggered by the recent Covid 19 cluster outbreak in Clayton Park where many of our people live, work and shop and the most recent Covid 19 updates by Dr. Strang for Halifax Regional Municipality. Please join us right here in this virtual space on Sunday at 10:30 am for live-stream worship.

Interested in participating in the Northwood Christmas Card Campaign for Seniors project? This year has been especially hard for our seniors, and we know family visits will be limited over the Christmas season, so we at Fairview are excited to help out the Kin Club of Halifax with their Northwood Christmas Card Campaign for Seniors project. The goal is 5000 cards. Our very own Denise Hirtle has taken this project under her wing as a Kin Club member. Those who wish to partici...pate are asked to purchase an extra box of cards this year for these friends (or finish off your box for them). The Kin Club will then gather these cards and safely distribute to Northwood. Deadline for this project is December 7th. Cards can be mailed to PO Box 22076 Bayers Rd, Halifax B3L 4T7, dropped in mail slot at Fairview United Church, 3524 Dutch Village Rd or email [email protected] for pick up. See more

Matthew Fillier for providing us with his Reflection for this service. This is our final joint worship service for the summer with Rockingham United. A HUGE thank you to those who have assisted with recording, audio/visual, candle lighting, vocal solos, prayers, music, etc. We could not have done it without you.

Its back to school time and this year is a little more stressful than others. As a way to help lesson the burden on many families you are invited to contribute as you are able to our School Supply Drive for our local schools. Please see the letter below from our outreach team for more information. Fairview United Church School Supply Drive Sept 1, 2020 Sept 7, 2020... From today Sept 1, 2020 until Sept 7, 2020 Fairview United Church Outreach Team will be holding a school supply drive for the elementary schools in our area and the Indigenous community in partnership with the N.S. Native Council. In addition to elementary school supplies, there is also a need for graphing calculators for high school students who take academic math. Three calculators are needed at the N.S. Native Council. We would donate three of these directly to the Native Council so they can do the loaning of the calculators. Any other calculators we receive would be loaned out by Fairview United Church to our local high school students (marked with our identity) and tracked by the Outreach Team. You can donate in one of two ways: You are welcome to do your own shopping as you are able. You can drop off your donation to Allison MacKenzie-Power. Allison can be contacted at 902-445-9161 to set up a safe physical distance drop off time. or If you would like to donate but do not want to shop please e-transfer your donation to [email protected] and clearly label your donation as OUTREACH SCHOOL SUPPLIES. All money donated to the church with this label noted will be used to purchase school supplies for our local students and will be delivered by Allison MacKenzie Power, Brittany Power, and Kaitlyn Power to the schools. The following items are the supplies that are requested (tax not included in price list): Graphing Calculator - $130 Scientific Calculator - $15 Backpacks - $30 Lunch Bags - $20 Binders - $10.99 each Loose Leaf paper - $2 Pens - $12 for a pack of 50 Pencils - $1 for a pack of 10 Crayons - 69 cents for a pack of 24 Coloured Pencils - $2 for a package of 24 Markers - $3.49 for a package of 12 Glue Sticks $5 for a package of 6 Pencil Boxes - $3 Notebooks - $2 each Dividers - $2 each Once again, thank you for helping out with this need in our community and be assured that your donation will be greatly appreciated. Hello Folks! It has come to our attention that there is a big need in the Halifax community for tents and sleeping bags. Early in the pandemic, the NS government moved high risk individuals from shelters and homeless folks into hotel rooms to keep them safe. This funding ended at the end of June with no concrete plans on where people should go. Shelters continue with social distancing so cant take any more people. Approximately 100 people were staying in a hotel and most of them are now living on the street. If any of you (or your friends/family) have small tents or sleeping bags you no longer need, Denise Hirtle would be pleased to collect these to pass them on. Please contact Denise Hirtle at 902-457-9133 if you are able to contribute to this need in our community. Thank you so very much! Blessings and peace to you all.

GOOD NEWS! The 297 boxes of hope and treats arrived on the HMCS Fredericton! Your care and generosity shines through a time of deep grief and sadness. Thank you all for reminding our sailors overseas they are not alone. A special thank you to Laurel Walker who spearheaded this beautiful initiative. Ill leave you with words from Joe Chaput and Brenda Zwicker who speak on behalf of the crew. With warm gratitude, Rev. Angela Good afternoon everyone. I received the attached pi...cture from the Executive Officer of HMCS FREDERICTON. The packages so lovingly prepared from all over Nova Scotia were successfully delivered last week while the ship was in Kiel, Germany. LCdr Nichole Robichaud expressed tremendous thanks for the incredible show of support from back home and wanted everyone to know how well received the packages were by the crew. In her own words: The thoughtfulness of Nova Scotians and the rest of Canada has been greatly appreciated by everyone on board HMCS FREDERICTON. Joe Chaput And On behalf of HMCS Fredericton I want to thank you for the gift boxes you sent to the crew. We had many very excited young sailors getting packages and the crew was amazed that any group would take on such a big project for us. The morale mail certainly lived up to its name as we enjoyed opening the boxes and finding many surprises inside. Capt Brenda Zwicker, Chaplain
