Port Alberni, Vancouver Island. On December 21st, 2020, the Winter Solstice, were asking families and individuals to bring a DIY mason jar lantern with your messages of hope, change, and prayers to the Orange Bridge. The Nuu-Chah-Nulth people celebrate the Winter Solstice as the start of the new year as it is when the sun stops retreating and things begin to wake up, and light returns. ... Following COVID-19 protocols, we will be holding space throughout the darkest night of the year by lighting up the bridge with the messages of hope for a better year, and a unified community. Decorate your mason jar at home and bring to the event. Please use battery-operated tea lights. For families without access to craft supplies or candles - we will have a limited supply on site so all may participate. On December 21st, 2020 - bring your lantern to The Orange Bridge and place it among a sea of lights shining hope and prayers as we enter a New Year.
