On Friday Falls Brook Centre hosted a Plastic Sleeping Mat workshop at The Ville Cooperative. The plastic sleeping mat workshop focuses on using a waste stream to benefit our greater community. The project itself uses plastic grocery bags that are upcycled into plarn, plastic yarn. Once finished the mats made of plarn are recyclable, water resistant, insulating, washable and surprisingly comfortable. The mats can be used for picnics, temporary sleeping accommodations, camping and more. Falls Brook Centre donates mats completed in workshops to community groups helping Fredericton's homeless population. #recycle #lifelonglearning #communitybuilding
Yesterday Falls Brook Centre taught seven classes at Perth- Andover Middle School. The grade six students reviewed animal adaptations in preparation for weeks to come. The grade seven students explored solutions to the problem of road salt in New Brunswick. Have you thought of any alternatives to road salt in New Brunswick? If you have, we would love to read them in the comments below! #empoweryouth #education #handsonlearning #ruralNB
Last Thursday we spent the day with the Ducks Unlimited Atlantic and found this. Can you guess what it is? #education #handsonlearning #inspireyouth #NewBrunswick
On Tuesdays Falls Brook Centre runs our Eco Citizens program with three classes in Bath. Last Tuesday, through hands on learning, students learned about a variety of topics depending on their classes' needs. Labs included testing whether permanent markers are permanent, building bird seed houses and exploring how the earth changes. #empoweryouth #education #handsonlearning #ruralNB
Today Falls Brook Centre was at Bath Community School in the grade 3 class running our Eco citizens program. Last week students had collected samples from surfaces in their classroom to learn about germs. The photos below are what students found. #handsonlearning #activelearning #empoweryouth #inspireyouth #ruralnb #education

In the classroom today at PAMS in Perth-Andover. We leaned about mixtures and solutions and the salt looks like the moon! Art and Science! The students also worked through a soil contamination lab. So fun!
A beautiful and cold start to the day in Florenceville at Muddy Boots wetland Center. We are excited to be facilitating field trips with Ducks Unlimited

We can use both clean plastic grocery bags and empty egg cartons. If you have either to donate they can be brought to Greener Village (686 Riverside Drive) Monday-Friday between 8am and 3pm.
Looking for pennies for an upcoming science experiment. Does anyone have some old pennies they are willing to donate?Looking for pennies for an upcoming science experiment. Does anyone have some old pennies they are willing to donate?
Last week we tested three different bird feeders that we found on letgrow.org. We purchased gelatin, birdseed, canning lids, string, bamboo skewers and popsicle sticks. We already had the glue gun and flour and completed them all within an hour. The canning lid birdfeeder was a huge hit with the squirrels and was knocked down within a couple of hours. The other two were both popular with the chickadees and other backyard birds. We created a backyard bird bingo card to play and think this would also be fun to track how many birds go to each feeder. We love graphing things! PM us for a copy of the bingo card.
https://youtu.be/rTY8eaT11Ng We had a great time working with Ducks Unlimited this summer for the Ducks Days of Summer. Check out our video.
Another fun, at home, science experiment. These would look great on a windowsill when you are done.
Nature art frames are really simple to make, fun to play with and create some wonderful images. Click here to find out more: https://childsplayabc.wordpress.com///nature-art-frames-2/ #30dayswild
I’m trying something new this year, decoy stawberries. Have your kids help you paint rocks that look like strawberries, then hide them around your strawberry plants. Birds will try the rocks and hopefully leave the real berries alone.
More opportunities to recycle in the Fredericton area
