Heres a tip for dealing with anxiety: Write down the things that cause you anxiety and divide them into two categories. 1. On the first list, write down the events or items you have no control over.... And... 2. On your second list, write down those things that you can do something about or DO have control over. Those things that you can do something about, make an action plan to deal with them. For those things on your first list, say to yourself there is nothing I can do about this, so I am going to set it aside for now. What are some ways to deal with feeling overwhelmed?? Our work lives have become increasingly demanding, presenting us with ever more complex challenges at a near-relentless pace. Add in personal or family needs and its easy to feel constantly overwhelmed.... 1. When things start to pile up, and you start to feel overwhelmed by the tasks ahead, dont panic. Remember to stop and be mindful of the present moment. Quieting your mind and moving away from the endless what-if scenarios helps to center you in the present and prepares you to deal with the tasks that lie ahead more effectively. 2. No matter how talented or motivated you are, its impossible to do everything at once, so stop trying. The best way to dig out of an overwhelming situation is to pick your top priorities and work from there. 3. Learning to accept imperfection enables you to keep moving forward, and thats precisely what you need to do when youre feeling overwhelmed. 4. Remember that the challenges you face are opportunities for growth. Lets assume the worst-case scenario comes true in any given endeavor you take on. Youd simply have to accept it, move forward, and learn from what happened. ** Everyone gets overwhelmed from time to time, but it doesnt need to lead to anxiety or excessive stress. Its crucial to remember that everyone gets stuck in a funk from time to time and its not always easy to shake off. Try not to feel guilty for having this very human experience! In general, the main symptoms that distinguish shyness from Social Anxiety Disorder are: 1. The intensity of the fear 2. The level of avoidance... 3.The impairment of functioning that it causes in a persons life People with social anxiety disorder dont just feel nervous before giving a speech. They may worry about the speech for weeks or months beforehand. They may lose sleep due to anxiety and/or have intense symptoms of anxiety during the feared situation such as a racing heart, shortness of breath, sweating, or shaking. Effective treatment such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and in more extreme cases, medication are available and have been shown to help with social anxiety disorder. Here are three strategies that may help you conquer anxiety: 1. Challenge negative thoughts: ask yourself: is this a productive thought? Is it helping me get closer to my goal? If it's just a negative thought you're rehashing, then you must try to stop that thought. Sometimes, that includes literally telling that thought to stop.... 2. Relaxation techniques: individuals who experience anxiety may need "breathing retraining because they tend to hold their breath when they get anxious. Deep or diaphragmatic breathing calms your system, as do yoga, meditation, and exercise. 3. Make fear your friend: this one may be the hardest, but it may give you the most bang for your buck. The truth of the matter is that anxiety comes from fear, so the more you can understand the root of your fear, the more you can control your response to it anxiety. This understanding takes away the power that anxiety can have over our lives.
