Have you ever wondered why our teeth crack sometimes? A cracked tooth can be caused by biting on hard food/objects, trauma from sports, and certain habits caused by stress. Usually these cracks go unnoticed until pain starts suddenly when you bite into food or when your teeth are exposed to cold/hot temperatures. This issue is an easy fix. The treatments available include bonding, performing a root canal or placing a crown. #Dentistry #dentalworld #dentist #nocavities #oralhealth #healthyteeth #dentallife #toothbrush #sarnia #ontario

Who introduced dental floss? Ancient humans used horse hair to floss. In the 1800s, a dentist name Dr. Levi Spear Parmly invented floss made of waxen silk thread. Floss was mass produced in 1882. If you don’t floss, you miss cleaning 40% of your tooth surfaces!... #Dentistry #dentalworld #dentist #nocavities #oralhealth #healthyteeth #dentallife #toothbrush #sarnia #ontario

Have you wondered how dentists treat cavities? The answer is dental fillings! First a local anesthetic will be administered to numb the area around the affected tooth then the dentist will remove the decayed portion by using a drill. Once the area is free of decay and bacteria/debris, the material (filling) used is applied in layers then cured by a light. After the filling is hardened, the dentist will shape the material to the desired result. Depend on what type of filling material you choose; some will last from 5-10 years and more! A tooth can be filled with composite, amalgam, gold, glass ionomer, ceramic fillings, and metals. #Dentistry #dentalworld #dentist #nocavities #oralhealth #healthyteeth #dentallife #toothbrush #sarnia #ontario

How does drinking water improve your smile? Tap water contains fluoride and this mineral can help prevent cavities, promote the remineralization of teeth, and strengthen their enamel. Amongst the listed benefits, there are other reasons why you should drink the recommended amount of water per day. Water keeps us hydrated and prevent dry mouth. This reduces the teeth’s vulnerability to cavities. When dry mouth occurs, it puts us at risk for tooth decay. Drinking water washes away harmful bacteria that causes tooth decay. After a meal, water consumption can help neutralize the mouth’s pH level. #Dentistry #dentalworld #dentist #nocavities #oralhealth #healthyteeth #dentallife #toothbrush #sarnia #ontario

What colour is your tongue? Have you ever observed what colour or texture your tongue is? A healthy tongue appears pink and covered with small nodules. Nodules are also known as papillae. How to achieve a healthy tongue: Brush your tongue every time you brush your teeth... Can use a tongue scraper Rinse your mouth well to ensure there are no food particles remaining Drink plenty of water Stop the use of tobacco and consumption of alcohol Remember to go for regular dental checkups and notify the dentist of any changes in your mouth. #Dentistry #dentalworld #dentist #nocavities #oralhealth #healthyteeth #dentallife #toothbrush #sarnia #ontario

Did you know there is a connection between oral health and overall health? The mouth is the entry point to our body, some of the harmful bacteria that travel to our bloodstreams can cause new or worsen existing diseases and infections. Oral health issues like dental caries, gingivitis, and periodontal disease can exacerbate your health problems. So how is there a connection between poor oral hygiene and our overall health? As we know, proper oral hygiene such as daily brushin...g and flossing can keep bacteria under control. However, an unhealthy mouth can increase your risk of health problems when germs spread through your bloodstreams to different parts of your body. If it traveled to the heart, then it can cause heart disease. If bacteria traveled into your lungs, then it can cause pneumonia or other respiratory problems. Some of the health problems associated with poor oral health include endocarditis, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, pneumonia, HIV/AIDS, and osteoporosis. Two examples of how their linked: Endocarditis is a heart disease caused by germs latching onto your heart chambers and valves resulting in an infection. These germs normally originate from other parts of your body, such as the mouth. Diabetic people who suffer from gum disease like periodontitis have a harder time managing their blood sugar levels because the body does not properly absorb the insulin medication. All in all, poor oral health can and will affect your quality of life. #Dentistry #dentalworld #dentist #nocavities #oralhealth #healthyteeth #dentallife #toothbrush #sarnia #ontario

You may be storing your toothbrush incorrectly! Some people store their toothbrush upright and some facing down. When the toothbrush is in a downward position, you are not allowing the bristles to dry. Damp and wet environments can cause bacteria, yeast, and mold to grow. It is best practice to store your toothbrush upright to air dry. #Dentistry #dentalworld #dentist #nocavities #oralhealth #healthyteeth #dentallife #toothbrush #sarnia #ontario
