Good health is more than healthy eating and exercise, it’s about having a healthy lifestyle. Oral health is a big part of a healthy lifestyle. Brush your teeth twice a day with a soft-bristled brush using fluoride toothpaste. Floss daily and use mouthwash to remove food particles left after brushing and flossing. Eat a healthy diet and limit beverages with sugars.
It is bullying prevention and awareness week. Parents can help kids learn how to deal with bullying if it happens. Ensure your child knows they can come talk to you if they or a friend is being bullied. This week is an opportunity for us all to reinforce clear and positive messages that bullying is not acceptable in our schools, online and in our communities.
November 14th is World Diabetes Day. Important research that will hopefully contribute towards better management, more innovative treatments and eventually a CURE is being done right here in Edmonton. Here is Dr. Varughese participating in one of those research studies this week. As a type I diabetic she looks forward to a cure in her lifetime.
Just so you know in advance, for the time being, we will not have magazines, books, or children’s toys in the waiting room, as they’re difficult to disinfect. Thank you for understanding!
Pat really enjoys her work at Petrolia Dental. She loves the challenge involved in juggling and reconciling numbers. She enjoys the flexibility that comes with her position and enjoys working with our team. In her spare time, she enjoys travelling and spending time bonding with her family. She has travelled to places such as Las Vegas and southern California to visit with friends and family. She enjoys shopping with her daughter, exploring beaches with her son, and attending concerts (especially Steely Dan) and wine tastings with her husband.

Fall is here and so is apple season! Chewing the fibrous texture of apple skin can stimulate your gums, reduce cavity-causing bacteria and increase saliva flow. #firstdayoffall #apples #oralhealth #PetroliaDental
Having a tooth knocked out is one of the most serious dental emergencies. It can be caused by accidental falls, sports-related trauma, fighting, car accidents and even by biting on hard food. However, the damage can be fixed. If you act quickly, there is a good chance the tooth can be saved. Immediately contact and get to a dentist right away when a tooth is broken or knocked out. If your dentist can put the tooth back in place within an hour, there is a good chance that the ...supporting tissues will reattach and hold the tooth in place. If you can find the tooth after the accident or injury, bring it with you when you seek medical help. Pick the tooth up by the crown this is the part of the tooth that you see in the mouth and avoid touching the root end. Do not wrap the tooth in tissue or gauze or scrub the tooth. This will damage the delicate cells on the root needed to attach the tooth back to the gum. Place the tooth in a cup of milk (or water, if milk is not available) to keep it moist. Remember: get to a dentist as quickly as possible. The chances of saving the knocked out tooth are much greater if the dentist is seen within an hour. See more

Now that school is restarting it is even more important to ensure everyone is on a proper oral health care routine and that children have a back to school check-up and cleaning. #PetroliaDental #Edmonton #EdmontonDentist #BackToSchool

Teeth Tip Time! No matter what your child is going back to in September it’s a great time to brush up on oral hygiene tips for keeping your kids’ teeth healthy and bright! Here are a few tips: 1. Review their oral health care routine. Brushing first thing in the morning and brushing and flossing before bed will help develop a lifetime routine. They should be brushing for 2 minutes each time.... 2. Shop for supplies! When you shop for a new outfit and backpack, purchase a new toothbrush, toothpaste and floss! 3. Schedule your child’s back-to-school oral health appointment. This way we can ensure they are starting the school year (online or in person) with a healthy smile! #PetroliaDental #HealthySmiles #EdmontonDentist #Edmonton
