Our Family Service Ontario agencies provide clear and seamless pathways for victims and perpetrators of #VAW to get through crises such as crisis transition housing support and Ontario Works applications. Most agencies also provide the Partner Assault Response (PAR) program.

In preventing #VAW, Family Service Ontario agencies have provided decades of public education to raise awareness of relationship safety, domestic abuse, and mental health. Our agencies are among the few service providers offering treatment to women, men, and children.

Family Service agencies are key stakeholders in combatting Violence Against Women (VAW). Agencies provide a continuum of evidence-based, family-centered, and culturally responsive #VAW services from prevention education and early intervention to treatment and crisis intervention.

With a collective 125 locations and by offering a wide range of treatment services under one roof, Family Service agencies provide safe and accessible treatment to support women and their families in avoiding or leaving domestic violence situations. #VAW

With 125 storefronts in rural and urban areas, Family Service agencies have been providing accessible, evidence-based treatment to men for decades to help end the stigma of mental health and close the gap in services for men.

To couples at risk for #VAW, Family Service agencies offer early-intervention couples counselling. Pilot project research showed 10 sessions of evidence-based counselling reduced the risk of domestic violence, improved communication, and reduced stress and conflict in couples.

Acting Executive Director Janet Irvine stated her pride in the organization, commended the members for staying the course and thanked the tremendously supportive board of directors.

Mental health affects the entire family. Family Service agencies are hubs that offer a range of integrated services for men and their families. Agency partnerships create clear pathways to seamless, integrated services, so everyone gets the help they need faster.

The Family Service Ontario virtual Annual General Meeting for 2019 is underway. The meeting was delayed due to #COVID19.

Almost 2/3 of men who come to Family Service agencies can't afford to pay for mental health treatment. Agencies don’t turn anyone away and provide service on a sliding-scale or no-fee-when-warranted basis, diverting men from physician and emergency waiting rooms.

Community-based Family Service agencies provide low-barrier access to evidence based mental-health treatments for more than 250,000 children, youth, adults, couples, seniors and families a year.

The effects of COVID-19 may keep some Ontarians from returning to their normal routines and jobs. Mental-health services from Family Service agencies can help improve the outcome of clients facing "return anxiety" and those with depression or anxiety about looking for work. Regions in our province-wide Family Service agency network reported Ontario Works clients sought support for depression, anxiety, stress, family relationships, grief and domestic violence when offered mental-health services in conjunction with employment supports.

Ontarians on Ontario Works need more than direct employment supports to re-enter or stay in the workforce. Mental-health services from Family Service agencies help clients overcome personal challenges, reduce social isolation and build labour force attachments.

The network of 44 community-based Family Service agencies is a practical way to begin expanding access to the evidence-based, person-centered mental health services proposed by Ontario Ministry of Health. Domestic violence affects the entire family. From prevention to intervention, Family Service agencies offer a range of integrated services for victims, perpetrators and families to get help faster. This includes couples counselling for those at risk for escalating violence.

For treatment to be effective, men need access to services at the time when they are most ready to change and looking for help. By offering community-based, accessible services, Family Service agencies can close the gap in services for men regardless of where they live or work.

By actively developing referral networks and coordinating with other local agencies, Family Service agencies provide clients with warm hand offs to partners when additional mental-health support beyond in-house services are required.
