Today is the #TransDayOfVisibility , a day to celebrate and uplift our trans family, friends, and community. It's a day to show up for trans folks, to liste...n, to learn, and to commit to doing better. You may have been reading messages from trans people today: messages of their lived experiences both the good and the bad and it's important to note that not everyone is able to or wanting to share their stories to the world. Today, we've observed that many of our friends are doing their best to navigate ongoing challenges. The added complications of the pandemic have made it difficult for folks to be involved in the things they're passionate about. It may not be obvious, but a lot of emotional and personal energy goes into the day-to-day things that others may take for granted. How can people support the trans community? - make a personal commitment to keep learning about trans identity, pronouns, and history - show up and participate in the lives, goals, and aspirations of your trans community - contribute through volunteering or donations to initiatives that support trans folks
Family Service Regina has adapted services to best meet the Regina community by offering services online and by telephone. Art Therapist, Dillon Lewchuk, suggests taking some time and getting creative during the current lockdown. "Creativity allows us to process experiences when words may not be enough". Said, Dillon. He suggests taking a moment in your day to create using the theme of isolation. "By engaging in creative practice, we can allow our minds and bodies to be pres...ent in the here and now. This allows us to check in with how we are currently doing and capture this unique moment through artwork." Below is a drawing that came forward to Dillon. He describes that "isolation feels like a fish stuck in a plastic bag. Safe from the outside world but confined with no place to go". Give it a try, and share your artwork with us.

For young people, and especially for vulnerable youth, the COVID-19 pandemic poses considerable risks in the fields of education, employment, mental health, and disposable income. Carissa, Communications, and Development with Family Service Regina explores this topic during our Coffee with a Counsellor series, featuring Counsellor, Dillon Lewchuk. Did you know there is a Regina Community Fridge at 3037 Dewdney Ave where one can drop off food for the fridge and pantry and someone in need can come pick it u...p? I saw a post last night saying it was empty so I gathered about 3 bags of things that have been sitting in my cupboards for a while (not expired!) and dropped them off just now. There was a person there looking in the empty shelves and two more people walking up looking for food too. I couldn’t imagine walking in this weather hoping to get some food and having to leave empty handed. If anyone reading this is able, could you please go through your pantry for non-perishables and think about dropping them off at that location. It looks like the community needs its right now.
