November is Woman Abuse Prevention Month. FTP will once again be participating in the Ontario Association of Interval & Transition Houses (OAITH) Wrapped in Courage campaign, which will be run completely online this year. The focus will not be on selling Wrapped in Courage purple scarves, but on building awareness and raising funds through online engagement pieces. Donations are being requested to support women's shelters across Ontario from the convenience of your mobile pho...ne. All you need to do is text the word ‘COURAGE’ to 41010 or use the tool below to donate $5-$25. Although the campaign looks a little different this year, the goal is the same: mobilizing this community to ensure everyone is educated, aware, and willing to help put an end to men’s violence against women. FTP invites our community to show their support for this campaign by wearing purple throughout the month of November, and by following the initiative online (FTP’s website and social media channels) for campaign updates and awareness pieces. Purple scarves are available and can be purchased ($20/each) through FTP. Payment MUST be done in advance either via our online shop (http://ow.ly/lWbW50C7Baz) or by contacting [email protected] / 519-942-4122, ext. 243 to make arrangements. Curbside pick up is available. Pickups can be done Monday-Friday, 11:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Please email [email protected] if you need more information. Supporting your local shelter means that women always have a safe place to go when they are being harmed. FTP plays a vital role for survivors through our programs and services. It takes the support of an entire community to end violence against women. For more details on the Wrapped in Courage campaign, please visit: http://ow.ly/OPNb50C7Bay. #WrappedinCourage

We would like to extend our most sincere appreciation to the folks at Theatre Orangeville for raising $1,305 in support of Woman Abuse Prevention Month (WAPM) and the work we do to end the cycle of violence. Theatre Orangeville generously offered to produce and feature the powerful production Rage Against Violence online on our behalf earlier this month. This production was developed by Gary Kirkham and Dwight Storring and was originally commissioned by Women’s Crisis Servi...ce of Waterloo Region; a theatrical glimpse into the real-life stories of women who have experienced domestic violence. Thank you to everyone who volunteered their time to participate in the production of this piece, and to everyone who purchased tickets. It was an important piece to watch. Women who have experienced or who are currently experiencing domestic violence are our friends, family members and colleagues. It is essential for everyone to know what these women are going through, every day. L-R: Norah Kennedy (FTP), David Nairn (Theatre Orangeville) and Sharyn Ayliffe (Theatre Orangeville) #EndViolenceAgainstWomen #WomanAbusePreventionMonth

"About three out of every four women who are experiencing violence in their homes do so in silence, according to Statistics Canada. They don’t call the police, often for the very reason Cochrane didn’t: fear. Fear for a child. Fear that it will make the situation worse." #WomanAbusePreventionMonth https://bit.ly/36LWotJ
