Happy Labour Day long weekend! For many it's the unofficial last week of summer. For those starting or returning to Fanshawe, virtually or in person, its the beginning of a new school year! Our plans for this weekend and the next couple weeks are focused on keeping everyone as safe as possible. Here's what that means:... Residence: Move-in is on a scheduled basis this year from Saturday, September 5 to Sunday, September 20. Residents were e-mailed to schedule a time slot - 30 minutes for two people from each residence community to move in, plus 15 minutes for us to clean and sanitize moving carts, high-touch areas, etc. Oasis will be open this Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. It will be closed on Monday, September 7 for Labour Day. Regular hours (weekdays, 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. and weekends 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.) resume on Tuesday, September 8. Student planners and FANCards will be distributed to students in person over the next few weeks, including after the term starts for some students. Red Zone and other Campus Store locations are taking orders online. Our physical stores will still be closed for a little while, and when they open, service will be limited. The Fanshawe Student Union is participating in a virtual Campus Concert Kick-Off on Tursday, September 10 at 8 p.m. Watch online at www.fsu.ca/concert. Fanshawe staff and services will be offline and unavailable on Monday, September 7 for the Labour Day statutory holiday, returning on Tuesday, September 8. We are excited to welcome students for Orientation on Friday, September 18 (visit www.fanshawec.ca/orientation for more info) and for the start of classes on Monday, September 21. Don't forget about our Fanshawe Experience Guarantee (www.fanshawec.ca/guarantee). We know you can do this, and we're committed to helping everyone have a successful fall term. The latest update from Immigration, Refugees, Citizenship Canada (IRCC) on Post-Graduation Work Permits as it relates to online studies. https://www.canada.ca//noti/pgwp-eligibility-measures.html Three changes are being introduced: Students may now study online from abroad until April 30, 2021, with no time deducted from the length of a future post-graduation work permit, provided 50% of their program of study is eventually completed in Canada.... Students who have enrolled in a program that is between 8 and 12 months in length, with a start date from May to September 2020, will be able to complete their entire program online from abroad and still be eligible for a post-graduation work permit. Students who have enrolled in a program with a start date from May to September 2020 and study online up to April 30, 2021, and who graduate from more than one eligible program of study, may be able to combine the length of their programs of study when they apply for a post-graduation work permit in the future, as long as 50% of their total studies are completed in Canada.
