Happy Easter! This postcard from our collection has a faint postmark from Cassel, Ontario, dated April 3, 1912. Cassel was a Post Office in East Zorra, established in 1874 and closed in 1914. The message on the back reads "Dear Myrtle Here's hoping you have a joyful Easter & all the eggs you can eat. So sorry that I can not give you some this time." The card is addressed to Miss Myrtle McCabe, 191 Coburg St., Stratford Ont.
Fanny says stay home! As per provincial guidelines, Winter Walks will no longer be operating, and our staff will be working from home as much as possible as we try to get ready for our Public Programming Season. London Tourism, Ontario, Canada London Heritage Council
Reminder, there are no Winter Walks this Friday, April 2 or Monday, April 5 for the long weekend.
In time for #TakeAWalkInTheParkDay, Fanny has an update on Winter Walks-- you can continue to stroll through the Village as a household even though we have entered the Red-- Control Framework. As always, Winter Walks remain free but a donation is appreciated. Remember to stay distant from other groups, that our buildings are not open, there is no washroom access, and the Village will be closed Friday, April 2 and Monday, April 5, 2021. http://fanshawepioneervillage.ca/planning-your-visit-0 London Heritage Council London Tourism, Ontario, Canada Daytripping in Southern Ontario
A great learning opportunity this weekend-- Black Canada and the Great War. From 1914 to 1918, approximately 1,400 Black men served in the Canadian Expeditionary Force (CEF) but their participation is often under-recognized if discussed at all. The symposium may have already begun but you can sign up and join in at any point. https://www.ryerson.ca/black-canada-and-the-/registration/

This postcard, written on December 22, 1907 to Miss Laura Henry of Sombra, Ontario, expresses the writers hopes for the festive season and the coming new year: Just a card to wish you a very Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year. May you find better friends, sweeter pleasures, purer joys, happier days, and more successful efforts, filling 1908 than you have ever known before. Yours sincerely, Kenneth J. Beaton". The staff and board of Fanshawe Pioneer Village wish you and your family a very Happy Christmas!
