Wondering what you're looking at??? . This is my first "oops" of the season.. Not everything can be pretty and "insta-worthy"! . These are my saffron crocuses. They shouldnt be so stalky and yellow... I planted them in the fall and had some extra cardboard so I just tossed it on top not thinking Id see growth so early. This photo is actually from a couple weeks ago, and i was worried Id killed these lil bulbs. ... . Luckily though! Im seeing them green up and thrive. Looks like I caught it in time! Ive never grown these before and they are due to flower in late summer/early fall so they should have plenty of time to gather up the energy they need. . Any lil' (or big) oops for you yet? Love my homelaid eggs! . We keep our chickens into their old age (we try at least!) so egg production had dropped over the last couple years. (that and well, raccoons, dogs and birds of prey have left their mark over the years too) . Our oldest hen is actually 6 years old, and she pretends to lay but leaves no magic nuggets behind She's the sweetest though, a longtime friend. She can stay forever without laying another egg!! ... . Im pretty excited about these lil flowers.. I ordered these mid summer, received them a few weeks ago, and finally got them planted last week. . Saffron crocuses! They wont bloom until next fall... but then... Homegrown Spice! . Actually, to be honest Ive never really used it, but I will next winter! . Im not sure how much Ill get.. 150 strands? Is that enough to use? I guess I have some reading to do!... . Does anyone else have these growing? Do you collect your own saffron? . In case anyone is curious... My birds are part of my family... If you keep a small flock of chickens, you likely understand.. Ive been away from home much too much these days. Busy trips to town running errands, working off property, more errands... . Its time to be home more. Finn dog need to be outside more, making his presence known and warning me to unwelcome visitors.
