Embrace culture and explore colour and light with the upcoming art exhibit The Myth of Away" by Valerie Ashton, Beth James and Sally Cudlip. The Opening Reception will begin Saturday, November 2nd, 2019 at 2 pm. The show will run November 2nd 28th, 2019 in the Kent Farndale Gallery in the Scugog Memorial Public Library at 231 Water Street in Port Perry. As a culture, we rarely think about our waste once it is thrown away; our garbage becomes an afterthought as soon as it h...as left our possession. In this show, the artists hope to reinterpret waste, forgotten and overlooked items from the past, and things often discarded without consideration, to bring awareness to the omnipresence of refuse in contemporary life. Valerie Ashton, Sally Cudlip and Beth James come at this theme from very different directions both conceptually and aesthetically, but ultimately the work overlaps with a message of awareness, a desire to reinterpret and explore unconventional materials and create art that has a strong narrative and social commentary. The Kent Farndale Gallery is open 7 days a week during library hours. Please call 905-985-7686 for more information.

Embrace culture and explore colour and light with the upcoming art exhibit Windows and Doors, Literally and Figuratively" by Marion Meyers. The Opening Reception will begin Saturday, October 5th, 2019 at 2 pm. The show will run October 5th 31st, 2019 in the Kent Farndale Gallery in the Scugog Memorial Public Library at 231 Water Street in Port Perry. Meyers favours the encaustic medium for her art. Encaustic is an ancient process of melting beeswax and damar resin together... with pigment to paint, hot and fluid, on birch panels. It dries immediately and each layer of encaustic paint must be fused with a blow torch, heat gun or hot iron to the layer beneath. Encaustic paint is a wonderful medium for scraping away, layering colour, adding texture and making glossy surfaces. says Meyers, The images swirling in my head, either from photos I’ve taken or abstract impressions of places, are ideas I bring out in my encaustic paintings. The Kent Farndale Gallery is open 7 days a week during library hours. Please call 905-985-7686 for more information.
