Back from a wonderful weekend of assisting a Myofascial Release course in Toronto. I am reminded every time how wonderful it is to learn, to be present and to let go of things that no longer serve me. Excited to start a new week!

To all of our clients. The College of Massage Therapists of Ontario has implemented a new amendment for the requirement of written consent for RMT's to assess a...nd treat areas deemed "sensitive" : these areas include chest wall, the gluteal area and inner thigh. Every treatment clients will be asked to sign a consent form. Thus far, we are the only regulated health professionals with a governing board mandating the need for this. As Registered Massage Therapists, it falls within our scope of practice to treat these areas should both client and therapist deem it necessary. We are asking for support in signing this petition to ask our College to revoke this decision. We as RMT's are not opposed to receiving additional consent (beyond the standard consent to treat), but the act of having clients fill out a 1-2 page consent on each treatment is excessive, redundant and potentially may impact the quality of treatment or discourage clients to receive needed treatment in these areas. We feel overall, this is an unnecessary procedure that places a sexual emphasis on these areas that are very much in need of treatment.
