I'm very late to post this, but friends in Calgary, if you feel safe and interested to check it out, my installation of "whitepages" is up at The New Gallery in... Chinatown until December 19th! ABOUT THE INSTALLATION: "whitepages" is an interactive multimedia work examining the phonebook as a living archive of human migration using common Chinese last names to create a sampling frame. Consisting of projected datasets, generative sound, twelve phonebooks arranged as a telephone keypad, and an overhead camera sensor, whitepages creates a space to consider the extended relationships of names, phone numbers, and addresses across time. For more information, including a wonderful writeup from Kevin Day: http://www.thenewgallery.org/whitepages/ COVID-19 PRECAUTIONS: The work itself is designed to be touchless (motion sensors), masks are required, gloves are available if requested, only one cohort is allowed in at a time for up to an hour, and appointments must be made 24 hours in advance. Visiting the gallery is by appointment here: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/milton-lim-whitepages-tickets-1. Massive thanks to Su, Brittany, and The New Gallery team for hosting my first-ever solo exhibition and for being incredible to work with. And I'm indebted to Kevin Day, April Leung, and Monty Martin for all their expertise, feedback, and support they contributed in our conversations and the development of the work. Thank you to Cory Philley at Shadbolt Centre for the Arts for the residency support in 2018 and to Yun-Jou Chang and the team at Cinevolution Media Arts for programming the first iteration in 2017. Finally, huge thanks to Mark Coniglio and Troikatronix -- "whitepages" runs using Isadora. I have a bunch of documentation footage to edit and that'll be up sometime in December! This project has been supported by BC Arts Council, Media Arts.

Rumble Theatre is presenting The Chop's Pathetic Fallacy from Nov 25-29, online or live in the parking lot at PL1422! Pathetic Fallacy examines our changing relationship to weather. It circles around climate change and lands on one person. Reflection outweighs didacticism, with wit and curiosity. Urgently drawing together landscape painting, small talk, meteorological science and pathetic fallacythe attribution of human feelings and responses to inanimate things like the weatherthis piece questions the value of emotion in the face of a coming storm.
