OPTIMAL HUMIDITY LEVEL FOR SKIN? Humidity is the amount of water vapor in the air. High humidity = Moist air Low humidity = Dry air ... Additionally, cold air cannot hold as much moisture as warm air, which means that winter will always be the driest season. (I'm getting to a point here just stay with me...) The ideal level of humidity for skin is between 30 and 50%. A few years ago we lived in a condo on the 15th floor and during my first winter there, my skin was TERRIBLE. I thought I had beaten my eczema and dermatitis and suddenly it was back. At some point I noticed the thermostat had a humidity reading on it and it was at 20%. (Turned out the units humidifier needed to be replaced). 20% humidity is not good. It's hard on your skin, your eyes, your sinuses, your immune system. In your average house in Calgary (not condo) where there's more of a normal/natural air exchange, it's about 30%, which is acceptable but still explains why so many of us have eczema and other chronic issues flare up in the winter. Do you know what the humidity level in your house is? Do you supplement with a humidifier? #eczema #livingwitheczema #eczemacommunity #eczemafreedom #eczemababy #naturaleczemarelief #naturalpsoriasistreatment #cleanskincare #paleoskincare #atopicdermatitis #eczemawarrior #tsw #topicalsteroidwithdrawal #sensitiveskincare #sensitiveskin #theeczemadetox #eczemahealing #babyeczema #eczemamanagement #psoriasismanagement #psoriasiswarrior #healingeczema #healingpsoriasis #canadianmade #shoplocalyyc #smallbusiness #eczemaproblems #flakyskin #psoriasistips #eczematips

Woof. So much to love about the newborn stage but also so much to....not love. The erratic sleep patterns just destroy me. I think he's on a schedule and I plan my next day accordingly and then *surprise* he's up from 2 to 7am. The first of two parts of his birth story is up on my blog. The first part is really just the amazing home birth experience. The next part will be some of the difficulties we had the first week. Even though everything worked out, I wanted to make sure I included our days of extreme stress and even tears so that I don't just gloss over it all. COLD SNAP We've had quite a lovely winter so far here in Calgary, but this week's cold snap reminded me that we still have a ways to go! I was an outdoor kid growing up in Montreal, but it appears that over the years I got soft and it's taken having a toddler to show me how much I've avoided going outside in the winter as an adult. ... Thankfully, ensuring my babies get lots of immune-boosting outdoors time means I'm out there too. I definitely notice a difference in my mood. The only bad thing is the poor girl doesn't have a sled and we can't find any in the city! Anyone have a line on a sled lol???

TEMPORARILY SUSPENDED HI! Baby came a bit earlier than expected and as a result I have had to temporarily suspend our free local delivery program for the next 2 weeks. All current orders will be honored with free shipping but it will go through Canada Post so slight delay. I do apologize for the inconvenience. ... Thank you Caitlin

NEW BLOG POST: My first baby's birth story. (Link in bio). Something a bit different here, but it's something I've been thinking about a lot lately since my second is due in 2 weeks! I had a great, natural birth with midwives in the hospital and I can't say enough good things about the quality of care they provide. We're so lucky to be able to have it as an option here in Alberta for those that are low-risk. ... While you do have to get on the list fairly early in your pregnancy, there are fascinating stats about C-section rates for midwives compared to OB-GYNs that are worth looking into. No criticisms. Just my personal experience and obviously I'm not a medical professional. I am someone who had an amazing birth experience, though, and I'm looking forward to trying this second one at home! Shoutout to the amazing team @birthpartnership !!!!
