Chimpanzees, like all great apes, have very dexterous hands. Tatu not only uses her nimble hands to sign with caregivers and other residents, but she uses them to manipulate toys like the one in this video! The American Goldfinches at the reserve are presently molting and they will soon have their colourful breeding plumage! All birds replace their feathers throughout the year for a variety of reasons, like staying warm and dry, to blend into their surroundings or to impress potential mates. Whereas their winter colours are rather drab, the Goldfinch's bright yellow and dark black summer feathers are quite the eye-catcher! Les chardonnerets jaunes sont actuellement en mue et ils... auront bientôt leur plumage nuptial coloré! Tous les oiseaux remplacent leurs plumes tout au long de l'année pour diverses raisons, comme rester au chaud et au sec, pour se fondre dans leur environnement ou pour impressionner leurs partenaires. Another mammal that inhabits our conservancy is the Cottontail rabbit! There are many species of Cottontails, but the Eastern Cottontail is the most common. These rabbits, which are named after their fluffy white tails, occur throughout southern Canada, the central and eastern US, and the northern tip of South America.
