Wishing everyone who is returning to school a happy first day back (including teachers, SLPs, and other school staff) and anyone who is homeschooling a great first day on that journey!

Did you know that SLPs are also responsible for assessing and treating swallowing difficulties? If anyone is curious where your food and drinks go once you swallow check out the cool X-ray video in this link showing everything moving down the throat and into the esophagus (the tube that connects down to the stomach)!! Everything works really well when we are young but can slow down a bit when we are older as seen in the comparison videos!

I've noticed many people struggling to communicate while wearing masks. It can be more difficult to feel heard... I often wonder if the person I'm talking to can hear me well. Instead of speaking louder and tiring out your voice, try the following:

Never ever thought 'virtual care' sessions (the new term we are using in the SLP world instead of telepractice), would give me the chance to be a Cheerleader... Saying, "that sounded amazing" or "that was such a nice sentence you made" just doesn't seem to come across as exciting as pom poms filling up the screen!!
