Pontius Pilate, the Roman governor, had a big decision to make about Jesus of Nazareth. Release this innocent man or let another prisoner go instead and keep Jesus on death row. He caved to crowd pressure and let a man named Barabbas go free. What can we learn from this? Join us this Palm Sunday at 9 am or 11 am or online and let’s do some digging!

At the hour of Jesus’ deepest need He went with His apostles to a special place to pray: Gethsemane. He often met here with the twelve during His earthly ministry. There is much passion in His prayer and what He went through points us towards the value of the cross. Let’s study and find out more this Sunday at 9 am and 11 am and also online. Yes, there are many religions in the world and people can choose whatever path they wish to take in life but it doesn’t change the fact that God’s wonderful plan all along, from the very beginning, was to include YOU! Join us as we look at the Christmas story in Luke 2 with a fresh perspective during this pandemic period.

Reminder! The Pantry runs again this Thursday, December 17 from 10:30 am until 11:30 am at First Baptist Church in partnership with Knox Presbyterian Church. There will be lots of food, both fresh produce, frozen meat, and non-perishable goods, plus other household and hygiene items. Everything is FREE, and we want people in the community to have their needs met, so let's get the word out! If you know someone in need and they can't get here, offer to drive them or come and pick up a box of stuff for them that they can use. Let's reach out in love to those in need!

When John the Baptist was born his father, Zacharias, prophesied that he would have a ministry of preaching to prepare people for the coming of Jesus the Messiah. Well, Jesus is coming again for the second and final time and so many people in our world are not yet prepared for His coming. Like John before us we must be proclaimers of the good news. Let’s find out more this week at 9 am and 11 am and online about how we can help remind people that Christmas is about Christ.

At this time of year our minds go back to the time of the two world wars, as well as the Korean Conflict, Viet Nam, Afghanistan, etc. We are a country at peace now but we have also been at war. We have other battles, though, that we wage on a regular basis, battles with the world, the flesh, and the devil. We won’t go far trusting in our own resources. No, we need the Lord to fight our battles. David knew that very well and communicates that in Psalm 60. We invite you to join us this Sunday at 9 am or 11 am or online to study this further.

We live in a society that seems to adhere to the principle that you need to speak up if something needs to be addressed. That is very true in so many circumstances but not all. Sometimes the Lord wants us to bring our concerns before Him in prayer and then leave them there and WAIT SILENTLY for His response. Have you ever had to do that? What situations might warrant such a posture? Let’s study this out further in this week's service. As a reminder for our in-person services - with the cold weather lately it is more appealing to chat inside, but we are still asking everyone to make your way directly outside after the services. Good news! Starting this Thursday, November 19, and every Thursday, First Baptist Church will partner with Knox Presbyterian Church to provide FREE food items (both fresh and canned) through the ministry of The Pantry. Doors open at First Baptist Church at 10:30 am and will be open until 11:30 am, or whenever that week's supplies run out. If you know people who could be helped by this then please share this news with them!

David prays earnestly in Psalm 61, but it is not a prayer of desperation based on past regrets but rather a prayer of confidence based on God’s past provision. God has been, and will continue to be, faithful, and David is confident of that. We would do well to follow his example. Join us as we dig deeper into the promises contained for us in Psalm 61. Psalm 63 is a remarkable portion of Scripture written from the heart of a man in passionate pursuit of God. David is described in the Bible as a man after God’s own heart (1 Samuel 13:14). Not only did David seek God ‘earnestly’ but he also did it ‘early’ according to the first verse of this psalm. Is there a connection that we can utilize in our walk with God? When it comes to making decisions and lifestyle choices, what influences your final decision? Are you firm in your convictions to do everything God’s way, or are you swayed by the opinions of others? We are not talking here about the wisdom of godly counsel but rather the approval of those we value as friends or have influence over us in our jobs, etc. Would you sacrifice your inner convictions if it meant keeping the peace or wanting people to like you? "What Is Your Calling?" If you're a follower of Jesus Christ then you have a calling. A calling isn’t just for pastors. We live in a world where people get offended by this, that, and the other thing. We need faith in Jesus to overcome being offended by scripture in the bible that we don't agree with, or don't think "is right". Let's learn how to trust that God has a plan for us and His Word. "Sin Is Contagious; Holiness Is Not!" You know the old saying, One rotten apple spoils the barrel and with sin, that is definitely true. Unfortunately, a little bit of holiness does not turn a sour life sweet. The people of God needed to hear this message from the prophet Haggai, and we do, too! "The Best Is Yet To Come" When the small band of returned exiles looked at the simple structure of the temple they were building, it looked like nothing to write home about. Compared to the previous, grandiose temple of Solomon’s day this one barely made the grade. But the Lord had a message through his prophet, Haggai: THE BEST IS YET TO COME. It will be take-out style, with both drive through and walk up areas to serve you.
