FCLL RELAUNCH UPDATE Fish Creek Little League Families, We are excited about the promising news shared by the Government of Alberta today. The inclusion of Team Sports in Phase 2 of the Alberta Relaunch provides further support for our plans of offering more baseball programs this summer. This includes league play and opportunities for players aged 4-8. We hope to have more clarity regarding our summer programs, including the opening of registration, by early next week. ... Please keep in mind that our ability to offer programs, including our registration capacity, is directly impacted by the numbers of volunteer coaches we have. CALLING ALL COACHES As we gear up to host our 2020 FCLL Back to Baseball Camps (and hopefully a summer league season) we need more Coaches! Below are the details on Coach Registration:... It is MANDATORY for anyone wanting to Coach (either Manager/Head Coach or Assistant Coach) to complete the following: - Online Coaches Registration through TeamSnap - Little League Baseball Volunteer Application Form - Police Information Check (PIC) Application - Share Completed Police Information Check with FCLL To access the above and further information please visit our website at: http://www.fcll.ca/2020-coach-registration/. ** Please note that if you completed the above steps earlier this year (for the 2020 House League Season which we had to cancel) you are NOT required to complete these steps again. ** For any questions or concerns with the Coach Registration process, please do not hesitate to contact our Safety Officer at: [email protected] As for the Camps, there will be a "Coach Field Leader" for each Session and 3-4 Assistants supporting each field. 2020 FCLL BACK TO BASEBALL CAMPS We are excited to offer the 2020 FCLL Back to Baseball Camps. The camps are geared more towards those players interested in a skills refresher as opposed to skills development. ... Sessions will tentatively include (based on Provincial, City and AHS Guidance) stretching, running, hitting, throwing, infield practice, outfield practice and pitching. This is for those Baseball Ages 9-16 (Baseball Age is the age of the Player as of August 31st, 2020). YYC SOFTBALL LITTLE LEAGUE - REGISTRATION OPEN YYC Softball Little League has opened registration for 2020. They will offer softball for girls calendar age 9 to 16 this summer, with practices starting later in June.... YYC diamonds are located in Dalhousie in the NW, and will expand to diamonds in South Calgary if there is response and registration to make it happen. BASEBALL IS BACK! Fish Creek Little League Families, As society continues to gradually reopen, we too are excited to announce the return of baseball at FCLL.... Nothing is more important than the health and safety of our participants and volunteers. We believe that organized sports offer tremendous physical, mental and social wellness benefits, while providing an environment where controls can be implemented to manage the health and safety risks to participants and volunteers, including exposure to COVID-19. Further details and registration information will follow in the coming days and weeks, but for now, here are a few details I can share with you about our 2020 programs: 1) In the second half of June we will be offering clinics to allow players to get out and refresh their skills. These clinics will be primarily geared towards players in our Minors, Majors and Teenage divisions. 2) In July and August, we plan to extend our program offerings to our younger divisions. 3) Also in July and August, we hope to be able to resume playing games in most divisions. We believe a staggered return of our programs will help us implement and monitor the effectiveness of our controls, and make change where required. FCLL will be implementing additional protocols regarding equipment, physical distancing, player and volunteer health checks and sanitation. This continues to be a quickly evolving situation. We ask for your continued patience and support as we work hard to do this right while staying aligned with our stakeholders and the directives of the Government of Alberta and the City of Calgary. BIG AL'S ONLINE TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS AND RESOURCES I hope that you and your loved ones are staying safe and healthy during these unpredictable and challenging times. Over the past few weeks FCLL has been working to determine how FCLL may be able to continue to deliver skills development to our players in a fun way while also practicing physical distancing. As part FCLL’s overall Coach and Player Development Program, FCLL has decided to extend our partnership with B...ig Al Baseball for 2020. As part of our partnership with Big Al Baseball, FCLL is excited to announce that FCLL parents and players will have access to Big Al’s online training and development programs and resources for all parents and players associated with FCLL for 2020 free of charge. Big Al’s website contains fun videos that are designed to show parents how to work with their son or daughter developing their baseball skills while having fun in the safety of their own back yard or basement. An email was sent out to our Members with information on how to activate their personal membership. If you did not receive this and are interested in such, please do not hesitate to email our Registrar at: [email protected]. Our Response to COVID-19 Dear Fish Creek Little League Families, You’re likely receiving a lot of these emails lately, I know I sure am.... First, I hope that you and your loved ones are staying safe and healthy during these difficult times. Staying socially connected, while maintaining physical distance, is essential to maintaining our mental health and protecting the physical health of ourselves and others. I can tell you that being a ‘social creature’ myself, I’ve personally found adjusting to this new reality quite challenging. I want to extend my sincere thanks to the many Fish Creek Little League volunteer Board Members and Staff who have continued to dedicate their time and talents to our response during this crisis. I would also like to thank each of you for your patience. A few weeks ago I asked you to stick with us while we examined options and determined a path forward for our 2020 season. After receiving further details this week from stakeholders, including our partners at the City of Calgary, we have come to a decision. I’m sad to announce that effective immediately, our spring 2020 baseball season has been cancelled. As promised, we will be providing full refunds to all participants currently registered. We will automatically be processing those refunds over the next few days via the payment method provided (no written request is needed). If you paid by e-transfer you should see the funds in about 5-7 business days. However, if you paid by credit card, please note that we have received notice that banks are experiencing up to a 21 day delay in crediting accounts. We are continuing to examine options for a summer (July/August) baseball season as well as plans for the winter months. Once this is all over, children and parents alike will need physical and social outlets more than ever. We will continue to communicate with you as we have a better idea of the programs were are able to offer and the timelines for registration. If we do play ball this summer or fall we will still need coaches. If you’re at all interested, even if you don’t know for certain you’ll register your player, we would ask you complete the coaches registration ASAP. This will help us get everyone approved and ready to go should a season go ahead.
