Gudrun Dreher completed her Ph.D. at UBC in 2003 in English Literature with a dissertation on Haida Mythology. She has not only taught courses in Literature and Writing but also in Leadership, Lifestyle, Conflict Resolution, and Ethics. She loves creative writing, Yoga, music, and dance and is passionate about creating a happier, healthier, and more peaceful and sustainable future for all. Dr. Dreher joined FDU Vancouver Campus in August 2008 as anAdjunct ProfessorforEnglish. Welcome to Cookahem Carve and Learn Workshop This workshop is Halloween special so it is extra spooky!! In this episode we will show you how to carve the pumpkin and talk about why we celebrate Halloween!! Halloween started off as a Celtic festival to ward off ghosts by lighting bonfires and wearing costumes.... This was because the celts celebrated their new year on November 1st and they believed that the last day of the year was blurred between living and the dead. So they disguised themselves to chase away the dead before they could damage their crops. This festival changed and evolved over the years to the Halloween we know today, with lots of chocolates, costumes and spookiness!! Steps for carving the pumpkin (please be careful while using carving tools) 1. Use a knife and cut off the crown. 2. Next use a large spoon or ladle to scoop up and clean the inside. 3. With a pen string out artistic side by sketching the pumpkins face 4.
