From Canada's north with -40c days and 12-23 feet of snow/year we hope you are all safe-tips 1) Let taps in bathrooms/kitchen drip slowly so pipes don't freeze ...-open bathroom/kitchen cabinet doors under sinks -add a terra cotta flower pot heater on bricks to keep it warm -add a bit of camper antifreeze to your drains to keep pipes from frosting/cracking -empty toilet tank and only allow a small drizzle of water to fill up-keep drain float open so water drains into toilet bowl and does not freeze upper tank which is why you empty it in the first place 2) Hang heavy blankets on doors and put towels along the bottom of door to stop all draft -hang heavy blankets around windows-if they are very drafty-use painter's tape and tape the seals-add a towel along any sills 3) Put up a tent in the warmest room for everyone to sleep in-tents hold in a lot of body heat. 4)Extra water-fill jugs-pans-pails-have enough for 2 dinners-4 toilet flushes (Use the dinner water every day and add new so the supply is always fresh or use for flushing toilet if sitting there too long) 5)It is the layer closest to the skin that is the most important--it must hold heat while allowing the body to breath so no moisture is trapped-wool combos and graded cotton are best-the top layer should be a rain jacket type coat to hold in heat or remove when too warm. This may be based on a true story starring Lulu-bell and mom... "When you're on the phone with a Revenue Canada agent fixing a mistake in your account and your ...cat sits at your feet insistently MEOWING so loud that the guy working from home has a cat that starts to answer and the two of you put the phones down beside each cat so they can continue their conversation for the next 10 minutes" See more
