Normalement c’est le temp de l’année où on aurais ouvert nos portes aux petits et aux grands. L’année passée on a même eu d’la grande visite de @madamediva.et.micah et ses amis!! C’était magique. On adore partager notre petite ferme avec vous en plus d’être transparent sur nos façons de faire les choses, et d’apprendre aux petits comme les grands toutes choses sur la production du manger et des textiles (terre a assiette/peau). On espère pouvoir un jour encore vous recevoir chez nous. Peut-être même avoir d’autres concerts de grange! En attendant... On a planifier des portes ouvertes en ligne! Coconut et ananas se sont fait tondre samedi passé nos vidéos pour voir comme ça c’est passer. Check out our videos for coconut’s first haircut! Although it isn’t quite as soft as Alpaca, Llama fibre can be used to make yarn. It just contains more guard hairs that need to be removed (as much as possible) from the soft undercoat. We use our llamas as guardians for our sheep so their fibre isn’t as important as their job but nice to have! Ananas turns out is a shedding llama so... we might not be Sheering her yearly anymore, since it’s really not her favorite. She was very relieved afterwards however especially with the heat we are having this year! I think Badger-face is my favorite sheep look/pattern, such as little Luna here. She is 2/3 Shetland, 1/3 Rideau Arcott and all around cute. Grandmother Panda and mother Maddy are also favorites of ours. Best friendly temperaments. Do you ever have Social Media post blocking? So many pictures to share, things you want to say, but blocked? Yeah that's where I am... I will start with this: Dot (aka Marilyn) picking off some fresh alfalfa. I feel like I have been positing many things especially in my stories that may look lush bountyfull. I have to try and remember that people don't always see the whole story when I post things and that my duty might be to explain the background of certain things. I love ...taking pictures when things are going well and everything is beautiful. What you don't see here: a summer that was so dry, and yields far below average. The drought created the perfect climate for grasshoppers who (as much joy as they gave my children to chasse in the fields) destroyed even more of the already slim harvests. These last few weeks with rain been amazing to bring a little moisture back to and this week we are even luckier with a little warm stretch. The precipitation also came at a terrible time for certain harvest ruining what was already slim. Weather patterns are changing, drastically, farmers see the effects first hand. Joey has been watching the weather with a close eye since he was little making hay since he was in his teens. These last few years the weather has cause more spikes in extremes than ever before. Little Monday fun! As summers go on the farm, there is so much to do. Days, weeks even months can fly by in the blink of an eye! In all that business I (Christel) miss beating creative so much, so when worlds collide and the @manitobafibrefestival sends out challenges like #makecreatecollaborate, I have to jump in!
