Fernie Gravel Grind 27.01.2021

The beauty of gravel is that anything goes; ride whatever and however you want, whether that's crushing long miles on some choppy forestry roads in the middle of nowhere or smashing a quick post work lap on some of the nearby trails and urban grav. That’s why we wanted to partner with CushCore to help people get out, and stay out, on whatever their ‘gravel’ ride might be. Cushcore’s been a staple in the MTB realm for years now and we firmly believe that tire inserts can have... a huge benefit in the gravel scene by supporting the endless types of adventure that come with. If you’re looking for some extra protection for your wheels, this is definitely worth looking into, and who knows maybe you’ll win a set at this year's event #TireSuspension #AnythingGoesWithGravel

Though it may seem like Highway 3 is the only way in and out of Fernie, there’s actually several ways to come and go if you look to the path less paved. Turns out, all of these gravel escapes were featured in the 2020 Virtual Fernie Gravel Grind which showcased multiple backcountry gravel loops spanning in distance and difficulty over a two month span. While this year was tough in many ways, it was great to see so many folks get out and explore our beautiful backyard as wel...l as host visitors like InstaFund Racing. Thanks to your support we raised $6,144.35 for the Fernie Trails Alliance - FTA in 2020, and we can’t wait to see what our 2021 event can accomplish. Video Work Nick Nault // Aidan Alexander Jones

We just want to take a moment to thank the City of Fernie for their tremendous support after selecting the Fernie Gravel Grind as one of the 2021 Discretionary Grant recipients. Our goal is to show the world just how incredible our community and gravel scene here is through the event, and it goes a long way to have their support in this initiative. Thank you CoF and council members! ... Photo Nick Nault

Tis the season for looking back on the year, reflecting on the good, the bad, and the ugly. As tough as this year really was, our Director Chris Hatton took it upon himself to make things just a bit more trying as he conquered the Metric Ton Challenge out in Kamloops. Set out completely by himself with no real reward except some serious bragging rights as well as being completely shattered. Besides landing a place in our hearts, his efforts landed him in Canadian Cycling Ma...gazine's Top Cycling Challenges of 2020. Last weekend we had the pleasure of getting out with former pro enduro racer, photo connoisseur, and all around legend Dylan Wolsky to see what the gravel scene is like in his hometown of Squamish BC. Between the easy local gravel laps found just outside of the city centre, it was quickly evident that one can get pretty far out there in no time through the numerous logging roads that surround the sea to sky area. Usually found looking for the next big adventure or snapping p...hotos of his current one, Wolsky see’s himself crushing more gravel miles and exploring what’s beyond the hustle and bustle of the mountain bike mecca on his 650B Santa Cruz Bicycles Stigmata in 2021. As a precursor to what the next generation of gravel bikes in BC may look like, its cross country mountain bike tires and wildly flared drop bars were undoubtedly the perfect combo for the flowy singletrack and loose forest roads that Squamish has to offer. When asked about the growing gravel scene in BC, it’s pretty clear how stoked he is to see what’s ahead for this freshly emerged discipline, and can’t wait to get out to Fernie in 2021 to explore the local gravel goods there too.
