The Ferry Building will be restored thanks to funding from the federal and provincial governments. The restoration, which is scheduled to begin this fall and be completed in spring 2022, will include the relocation of the building slightly to the east of its current location, to higher ground, in order to protect it from rising flood levels due to impacts of climate change. Seismic and envelope upgrades, constructing washrooms, and installing a ramp to make the building more accessible are also part of the project. Read more: http://westvancouver.ca/ferrybuilding

Paul Gravett Photography exhibited his work earlier this year as part of our Ways of Seeing exhibition. Here is his account of how COVID-19 has affected his art practice: The biggest effect of the pandemic was the postponement of an exhibition at the Plaskett Gallery in New Westminster. Fortunately, the show was not lost altogether. I was to have left for Europe just a couple of days before the shutdown in Canada. My trips there, especially the south of France, have been the source of much inspiration. Time has provided the space to think, learn, and experiment. I have started working on two new series. The first is colour studies that continues my experimentation with multiple exposure and depth of field. The second is one I have only just started, but it is a project that I have been considering for many months.

Let's celebrate #CanadaDay 2020 together! Sponsored by Canadian Heritage. 67 p.m.: Open your windows and listen to live rooftop performances in the Ambleside, Dundarave, and Horseshoe Bay areas. You will be able to hear the bands, but you won’t be able to easily see them. To maintain physical distancing, please do not congregate in the area. 7 p.m.: Step outside into your front yard or onto your balcony to join in a community-wide singing of O Canada after cheering on our frontline healthcare and essential service workers.

Freda Pagani, a West Vancouver artist who exhibited at the gallery last January, shared her story of how the pandemic is influencing her art practice: "The pandemic has afforded me the space to finally tackle learning Photoshop. I acquired a bargain second hand Mac from a business that was moving and it came with Photoshop already installed. Here is my first Photoshop piece produced for a Down Memory Lane project. It is based on the memory of tasting fresh produce on our trips to my mother’s family home in the north of Scotland. Since this is my first Mac Photoshop effort, there are many imperfections and several happy accidents but I learned how much I still have to learn!"
