The music of the Fertile Crescent has more than two main scales to work with making it very rich. Did you know that in our region there is more than seven main Maqamat (modes/scales) that can be merged and mixed together to create endless possibilities? Also, the uniqueness and complexities of rhythms bring forth a new level of musicality and diversity. The richness of such music is not only vast, but can depict so many emotions and feelings of longing, love, sadness and divinity giving a deeper understanding and narrative to our the Fertile Crescent region

Fertile Crescent on the map is the boomerang shaped region of the Middle East that was considered home to many of the earliest human civilizations. It was the birthplace for writing, agriculture, music notation, use of irrigation and more.The region of the Middle East includes Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine, Egypt , Syria, Turkey, Iran, Iraq, Cyprus and ancient Mesopotamia

Shireen Abu-Khader, founder of Fertile Crescent Publishing. A Palestinian music educator, composer and singer who is keen on presenting the music of the Fertile Crescent region to the international community. Throughout her local and international musical experiences leading choirs and music education, she realized that music of the Levant is underrepresented. Her mission behind Fertile Crescent is to give a glimpse into the richness of the region through its exquisite music and stories that lie behind each melody.

Fertile Crescent is an independent publishing business entity and a library hub that caters to the music of the Fertile Crescent region (Jordan, Palestine, Syria, Palestine, Egypt, Iraq and more). Our goal is to build a group of researchers, translators, interpreters, teachers, and educators who will work diligently on making sure the information you receive will set you up for a successful and exciting experience through music.
