Christmas cookie challenge!

We hope you have been enjoying the nice weather, just like these folks at Fort George & Buckingham House! Wellmaybe it hasn’t been quite THAT nice outside. Afterall, this picture was taken in August 2018.

Winter is good for many things: sledding, skating, snowman makingand beaver trapping. Prime winter beaver were the standard used to measure the value of all other furs and trade goods. (Meter stick for scale only- no meter sticks were used in 1792.)

We may not be able to travel right now, but that doesn’t stop us from thinking about travel in the 1790s. How you travelled depended on where you lived: forest or prairie. How would you rather travel: by canoe in the summer and by sled in the winter, like those who primarily hunted in forests? Or using dogs and horses to carry objects from camp to camp like those who lived on the prairies?
