WHAT TO KNOW: Coronavirus is a respiratory disease caused by the envelope virus SARS-CoV-2. The disease associated with the virus is called COVID-19. Covid-19 h...as now spread worldwide and there are confirmed cases and deaths relating to COVID-19. It is thought to spread mainly from person-to-person through close contact (within 6 feet or 2 meters) or through respiratory droplets when an infected person coughs or sneezes. It is possible that a person can become infected with SARS-CoV-2 by touching a surface or object that has a virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose or possibly their eyes, but this is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads. It is thought the virus can remain viable for hours to days on surfaces made from a variety of materials.
