***REMINDERS*** Christmas Showcase (K - 6) Tonight (Dec 17th, 2020) beginning at 7:00 pm, Mrs. Hoven will host Fogo Island Central Academy's first virtual Christmas Showcase. Individualized emails have been sent to families using the email addresses that we have on file, however we recommend that you use your child's NLESD issued e-mail to view the event. For the best quality, please change your layout to "Spotlight" mode, and remember to mute your mics and turn off your ca...meras. While the meeting link is provided to members of our school community, we kindly ask that you do not share this on any social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, etc.). We hope you enjoy this reimagined version of our Christmas Concert! Pictures (K - 12) Lifetouch picture packages should be returned to the school by Friday, December 18th. Alternatively, families can order their prints online using the Lifetouch website.(http://mylifetouch.ca) Chromebooks (7 - 12) Fogo Island Central Academy has yet to receive our bulk order of Chromebooks for our intermediate and secondary students. Using what devices we had at the school, and information obtained from our recent Scenario 3 survey, Chromebooks were allocated to ~30 students. Priority was given to secondary students (grade 10, 11 and 12) on CDLI and advanced programs, or those with complex learning needs. While we recognize this does not meet the demand for our school, we continue to work with the district to obtain the required technology for our staff and students. Last Day (K - 12) Students will be dismissed at 1:00 p.m. following a condensed day of learning. Please note that there will be no cafeteria service. Students in all grades are asked to please bring home any personal materials which would be required for at home or online learning. For clarification, please contact your child's homeroom teacher.

***Closed for Remainder of the Day*** Fogo Island Central Academy will remain closed for the afternoon session due to the continuation of a power outage affecting our area, in addition to poor weather and road conditions. Classes will resume tomorrow (December 17th) and it will be Day 14 on the school day calendar.

***Closed for Morning - Update at 11:00*** Due to the current power outage affecting our school and community, and the forecasted weather conditions, Fogo Island Central Academy will be closed for the morning session. An update on the afternoon session will be provided at 11:00AM.

A huge thank you to the folks at Winds and Waves for servicing our sewing machines! We know it wasn't an easy job and we're so grateful for your support and help.

*** Busing Delays/Changes - September 30th *** Please be aware of the following changes to tomorrow's (Wednesday, September 30th) bus routes. Due to strict capacity protocols (ie. 46 students per route) we must continue to stagger bus routes when substitute bus drivers are unavailable. We appreciate your patience and support and we problem-solve these operational issues. Tilting, JBA (Northside) & Shoal Bay - Ernest Keefe - The morning run will be ~30 minutes late, arriving... at the school for approximately 9:15 AM Deep Bay & Island Harbour - Cam Letemplier - The morning run will be ~10 minutes early, arriving at the school for approximately 8:30 AM Fogo (Southside) - Ashley Decker - The afternoon run will be ~30 minutes early, leaving the school at 2:30 PM. Parents of children in Kindergarten are reminded that someone must be on the bus stop as the student gets off the bus.

Over the last two weeks, some of Mrs. Keefe's Physical Education classes have been building outdoor forts. Materials for this project were provided by school generated funds (ie. fundraising, donations, etc.) - allowing students valuable time for outdoor play during an era of covid19. Today we learned that someone had purposefully vandalized their work - cutting holes in our tarps and removing the ropes (among other materials). We sincerely hope that those responsible please make amends by repairing the damage and/or returning these projects to their original state.

*** Bussing Delays - September 28th, 2020 *** This morning (Monday, September 28th), students on Roy Hewitt's bus (route 6) traveling to Joe Batt's Arm (Southside) and Barr'd Islands will be approximately 30 minutes late. Arriving at the school for approximately 9:10. In the afternoon, the bus will be dismissed from our parking lot at approximately 3:05 (typical time) This afternoon (Monday, September 28th) students on Ashley Decker's bus (route 2) traveling to Fogo (Southside) will be dismissed from the parking lot at 2:30 pm - arriving home approximately 30 minutes earlier than normal. Parents of Kindergarten children are reminded that a parent or guardian must be on the bus stop to receive a child as they get off the bus.

On Wednesday, September 30th we will be taking part in #OrangeShirtDayNL We will be learning about how #EveryChildMatters in some of our classes this week and encourage everyone to wear Orange on Wednesday. Our Cafeteria service will be starting for all grades on Monday, September 28th, 2020. This year, all our students will be pre-ordering meals - reducing the need for cash transactions. Online ordering will begin on October 5th, 2020. Please review the following memo in preparation for the restart of this service. (A paper copy should come home with students today)

Cold and flu season is upon us! Parents and guardians are reminded that if their child is experiencing two or more symptoms (see below) they should not attend school and contact 811 for further health advice.

Due to mostly sideways rain... Physical Education classes will be taking place inside today! Students are reminded to bring an appropriate pair of sneakers for indoor play.

Today, we started our morning by giving a shout-out to our amazing custodians and support staff! Our Hawks are so lucky to have such an amazing crew working to keep our school nothing less than immaculate! Take some time to let our custodians (Glenn, Mathilda, Dave, Gord and Ern) know how much we appreciate them in the comments!

Morning Hawks! We're looking for some stumps like those in the picture. Our nature trail is used by nearly all our grades on a daily basis - providing students time outdoors to reconnect with nature. Contact Mrs. Keefe to arrange for a drop off time and location!

As we head into cold and flu season it's very important that families continue to prescreen their children before heading to school. If your child needs to stay home, contact 811 and follow the advice from our public health authorities.

A reminder to families that we are making some changes to our drop-off and pick-up procedures! This memo was sent out on Friday, September 18th. Due to last minute operational issues, our cafeteria service will not be resuming on Monday as previously announced. Our new tentative date will be Monday, September 28th. Thank you for your patience and support as we continue to ensure a safe reopening of all our services.

A huge thank you to Bangbelly for the lovely treats we received this morning. Our teachers, staff and administration have been hard at work to reopen our school safely and yes... you deserve that cookie!

Morning Hawks! Unfortunately, due to the weather, all Physical Education classes with Mrs. Keefe will be INSIDE today. Please dress appropriately and bring a pair of sneakers!

We want to give a HUGE shoutout to all of our students today! You all did a great job following the new safety measures! We still have things that will take some time to work through, including afternoon dismissal, so please have patience and we all get these things sorted out. Thank you all so much for your great work today! It was a great day to be a Hawk!

Any parents that are dropping students off in the morning please enter using the driveway across from Winds & Waves, park as seen in this photo and wait for a member of the administration to welcome students in to the building. This will be done once the last bus leaves, no earlier then 8:45. See you in the morning!

We are so excited to see you all tomorrow morning! Grades 1-6 you will enter through your regular door and head right on to your classroom. There will be teachers around to show you the way! Kindergarten students, for tomorrow only, will enter through their own entrance, the one closest to the Family Resource Centre. 7-12 you will enter through the main entrance and Mrs. Hoven will be there to show you to your home rooms.
