She left her native country for Canada in the hopes of finding a home where she feels safe and accepted. Now I feel that I have been born again! I have found a country where everyone is accepted for who they are. I am so happy that I came to Canada and I really love my new life in Toronto. I have been doin...g volunteer work and I really love helping people who need support. My interaction with The 519 has shown me that helping others is also helping myself. We can all learn from what Cynthia, a member of the @pflagcanada community, has to say about being a mother and an ally. I am the parent of a young trans person, and, as a parent, I play an important role as a supportive and loving caregiver by helping them bridge communication around their transition. And I educate those around [them] as much as possible, so [they don’t] have to do [it].... During Transgender Awareness Week, we’re honouring people who live life as their authentic self. Thanks to Qmunity, discover Boots’ story and how they see their transition as a process of self-discovery that will never end. Will I ever find my ‘true’ self? I have not experienced an ugly-duckling-to-graceful-swan moment but many small, private moments of joy: the first time I wore a beard and stroked my whiskers or when my father told me I looked great on testosterone.... These moments allow me to trust my gut and my choices and my journey with no ‘true’ destination.
