FIELDSTONE OSTEOPATHY CLIENTS We received notification on Thursday September 21, 2020 that the federal government has unfortunately changed the tax exemption for Osteopathy. We are now required to charge and remit HST immediately on Osteopathic services. This means that we are now required to charge HST on top of Osteopathic Treatment costs. We have been fortunate enough to be HST exempt until this point.... We apologize for this change as it is not our goal to increase our fees at this time however; we must follow the new tax law in place and beginning charging HST. Effective Thursday October 1, 2020 the fees for Osteopathic treatments will be as follows: Initial Osteopathic Assessment: $110.00 Subsequent Osteopathic Visit: $80.00 Initial Osteopathic Assessment Child under 5: $ 75.00 Subsequent Osteopathic Visit Child under 5: $55.00 These numbers have been calculated by adding HST to our current treatment fees and rounding the number for ease of payment. I have attached the Government of Canada article here if you are interested in reading more. https://www.canada.ca//news108-excise-gst-hst-news-no-108-

Fieldstone Osteopathy in conjunction with Fieldstone Farm is now proud to offer Equine Osteopathic Services!!! The best part about Osteopathy is that it is a practice based around principals, rather than "techniques". This principal based learning allows us to use the extensive knowledge of anatomy and physiology and use it anywhere in the body. Not only the human body, but the Equine body as well. We as riders are always looking for an edge over the competition, whether it b...e from body work to supplementation, we want the best for our athletes. Well.... why not consider adding Osteopathic Manual Therapy to your program? Not only is having a well balanced and aligned athlete, giving you that edge, having our own body in the same well balanced and aligned position will also give you that advantage we all seek over our competition. This balanced and strong position is carried across all disciplines from show jumping, dressage, western performance to barrel racing. If you are looking for that "something" to add to your program, send us a message and let us show you what Osteopathic care can do for you and your horse. See more

Riding is a dangerous sport! Being thrown from a horse can lead to serious injuries and fractures requiring medical attention. Most equestrians, no matter their discipline, struggle with tightness and sore muscles in the same key area: hips and glutes, spine, calves, chest, shoulders, and neck. Not only can riding cause injury or strain but the regular lifting of saddles and heavy and repetitive duties such as mucking out can produce lower back pain. Riding actively engages m...any of the body’s muscle groups. The hip flexors (Psoas and iliacus) allow the body to bend in to the hips, and the hips to be pulled in towards the body. These are used when riding to hold the body in a vertical position and prevent the rider from shifting back. The hip flexors work in conjunction with the rectus abdominus as well as the muscles in the lower back to keep properly aligned, firmly positioned and anchored in the saddle. The psoas and iliacus attach to the femur which is why it’s possible that a pain in the region of the psoas can be felt as pain in the thigh area. The other muscles that are engaged while riding are the quadriceps, sartorius, gracilis, adductors, and pectineus, making the thigh the area with the highest concentration of active muscles while riding. This group serves to not only grip the saddle, but also to flex and extend the leg allowing the rider to post. The calf muscles are also engaged while riding as they are used for aids that prompt the horse to turn or speed up simply by applying pressure to its side with the calf. These are also flexed while the rider is up on their toes in the stirrups. The tibialis anterior is also heavily used and often tender keeping the foot dorsi flexed in the stirrups. Riding puts a substantial amount of pressure through our whole body and often requires more of a maintenance program to maintain the proper body alignment and posture we all need for effect and clear communication with our equine athlete See more

So many people have been wondering what I have been up to over the last four years. What are you driving all the way to Hamilton for? Isn't it hard? What are you going to do with this new therapy? Well.....let me tell you: Osteopathy!!! Osteopathy is what I have been learning and practicing. Yes, Hamilton is far, but it is the only place that offers an education in Classical Osteopathy. The CAO has a difficult program that requires you to use your brain every day and t...Continue reading

In a few short months I will have completed a 4 year program at the Canadian Academy of Osteopathy. Completing this education allows me to challenge the board exam to enter into an amazing association. The Ontario Osteopathic Association is committed to promoting osteopathic health care to the public, establishing and maintaining standards for safe and effective treatment, mandating accountability, ethical practice and continuing education amongst its members, and providing a list of practitioners to the public whose training and qualifications are of the highest standard. Take a look at what "our" OOA has to offer and how osteopathy can fit into your life. https://www.ontarioosteopathy.com/checklist-for-safety-qua/
