Advertisement handbill for the harness shop run by my great grandfather, Robie Eaton. The photo was taken for an article for the Halifax Herald which featured Robie who was still working at the age of 87 (1955). Robie passed away in 1958.

Another postcard photo from the same series as a previous image a few days ago of the bluffs at Kingsport Beach viewed from the south-west (so somewhere near th...e wharf), this colourised as a night scene. The image has the same series number, 101,907, as the first of the previous pair, so is a postcard of Valentine & Sons, 1906 [info thanks to Chris Gertridge]. (Collection of Gerald Cudmore) See more

Two colourised (postcard) photos of the bluffs at Kingsport Beach, the first from the south-west (so somewhere near the wharf) and the second from the north-eas...t. In the second what appears to be the wharf is just visible in the background, so this was taken close to the point at the end of the beach. Due to constant erosion of the sandstone no comparison with today is possible. (I can remember years ago there were houses with much of their foundations sticking out well beyond the bluffs, destined for imminent destruction.) Both photos have the imprint of the same photographer, a circle enclosing the letters "J.V.", with numbers 101,907 and 102, 532. (Collection of Gerald Cudmore)

Sunnyside Farm directly across from Don Forsythe’s general store, at the time a guest house, along with an advertising pamphlet. The last image is the view o...n the pamphlet, right-side up, taken from Lookoff overlooking Delhaven, Medford, and the Minas Basin. The pamphlet suggests that a D Forsythe was the proprietor, perhaps The Don Forsythe who owned the store or a family member. (Collection of Gerald Cudmore) See more

For our final post of the summer we wanted to share some of our favourite photos that haven’t been posted before. Many thanks to everyone who stopped by our page this summer; we hope you have a great winter.

John E. Harris’s permit for tax-free gasoline. The Fuel Tax Exemption Program is still in existence today, with more than 4,600 Nova Scotian businesses participating. The program aims to help reduce ‘red tape’ by allowing permit holders such as farmers and fishers to bypass the paperwork associated with requesting a refund.

Because everyone enjoyed the winter photos we posted about three weeks ago, we thought we’d share some more. These are from the Jean Harris collection. The first photo is dated January 7, 1956; the other two are without a date.

This is another striking image from the Kaye Family collection. However, there is no information to accompany the photo. Is anyone able to shed some light on the ship? Or on the location of the photo?

The Borden home. The house, originally built in 1864, was updated in the Queen Anne Revival style in 1902 for the Bordens. William Critchlow Harris was the architect who designed this update and the house is said to be one of the best examples of his residential work in the province.
