Spring hours will commence April 2, Friday, Saturday and Sunday 11-5.
First time one of these has been in the shop. It should be noticed by Contax T2 connoisseurs that this is the platinum/black model, not just your everyday run of the mill champagne model.
New hours until Dec 20th, Friday, Saturday, 10:00 to 4:30, Sunday, 10:00 to 4:00
Though the store will be open until late December at least, this Friday the 27th of November I will be closed for the one day only. Sorry for any inconvenience.
It is official, border closed still so the store will be open until December 20.
For all those interested, the store will be open until Nov 22 this year.
More fun with Kodak Vision3 50D film, shot mid day, hard sun, love that anti halation layer.
New ECN-2 kits are now in stock. This kit has been improved from the original by reducing one preparation step. New improved pricing as well!! The kits are good for 16 rolls without extending times (tested personally by your truly) and cost $67. These kits are used to process Vision3 cinema film, available in 500 ASA Tungsten, 200 ASA Tungsten, 250 ASA Daylight and 50 ASA Daylight.
Now available, 100mm CPL ($75), 2, 4 and 8 stop ND filters ($50 each) and a kit of all three ND filters ($110).
I've been out shooting Kodak Vision3 50D cinema film. This is processed in ECN-2, kits and film available in the store.
For your film, chemistry and accessory purchasing convenience, I have opened an online portal to the store. Shipping is flat rate across Canada at $15.00 with the exception of chemistry, which has to be sent by courier ground at a flat rate of $30.00. Come on in and take a look around - https://filmexperiencecamerastore.com/ I am still adding inventory so check back for more.
Some new items in the store. 100mm square filter holder including filter rings for 49mm to 82mm. I have used this make of filter holder for about 5 years and have been very happy with the performance and durability. Selling for $60 for the set. I have also brought in 100mm square filters for black and white photography as well as color correction filters for cinema film at $60 each. The set pictured in yellow/green, yellow, orange and red is available as a kit for the very low price of $150. The filters are B39 optical resin which is optically neutral and scratch resistant. ND filters and circular polarizers are on the way.
I took some Kodak Double X cinema film downtown. I have never shot with this film before but given the extraordinary latitude it offered, I will be shooting it again. I have this film in the shop for $12 per roll and $180 for a 100' bulk roll.
Due to the ongoing need for color filters for black and white photography, I have sourced yellow, orange and red filters in sizes from 52mm to 82mm. These filters are manufactured by an OEM manufacturer using coated German optical glass. They are priced at an inflation fighting $25 to $40 each depending on size. Packages of all three in each size are $60 to $92, depending on size.
I am frequently asked if I have any medium format cameras that are ultra affordable for those just entering that market. The most affordable camera I have is The Koni-Omega, a 6X7 press type camera. I took one to Nanton to take a few shots. As you can see, these cameras had great lenses, came with a 90mm and had a wide 60mm and long 180mm available as well. The cameras were used extensively in wedding photography through the 1970s. How affordable are they? $225 for a camera with 90mm lens!!
A rather unusual camera, the Hasselblad FlexBody. This is basically a technical camera where the composition is done with a ground glass and magnifying finder. The ground glass and finder are removed and a back with dark slide installed. The lens is cocked, the dark slide removed and the lens shutter released. This example is in near mint condition and available for $1,700 at the store. A selection of lenses are available.
For anyone interested in digital conversion of negatives, this may be of interest. FilmLab has an app for digitzing film as a stand alone, no Lightroom required. It also works on a phone for a quick look at the negatives. Find it here for a free trial - https://www.filmlabapp.com/
I was downtown Calgary shooting some 35mm Ultrafine 100 when I ran across one of my customers, Greg Rogalsky, a street photographer. Greg was using a Nikon F2AS with MD-2 winder and a 300mm F2.8 lens. Very cool.
I'm pretty pumped up by the latest addition to the film inventory, Extreme Ultrafine 100 35mm film. I took this out for a few test rolls to see how it performed. The pic of the elevators was shot with a light yellow filter only and the sky took on a great deep tone. This was shot at 10:30am in full hard summer light. The rail car was also shot in hard light and a yellow filter. The film managed the highlights very well and the contrast is outstanding, giving a very classic cinematic look. I have this in stock in 24 exposure rolls for $6.95/roll. I also have it in 100' bulk rolls for $80. Counting on 20 rolls of 36 exposures, that is $4/roll.... enough money left over to pay for the bulk roller in one go.
