October 7, 2015 Night testing is now complete for the MD500, Astar/Twinstar. All brackets that we have built to date can now fly at night. For the MD500 we had to design and install our own system on the 500. This allows the choice of one or 2 light. I opted for HID and I’m glad I did, amazing lights. Nothing compares to the beam that comes off these lights. Xevision provided the lighting and they were great to deal with. On the Airbus side the current belly lights that most operators have on their aircraft worked great.
September 11, 2015 Load testing and flight testing is now complete using our gooseneck fitting which also goes on our Astar/Twinstar bracket as well. The camera package is now good to 175lbs and the gooseneck fitting takes us an additional 3 inches forward. This gives us a larger field of view from the MD500. Giving us more choice on camera gimbal packages. We have also completed testing our new split pitot tube to allow us to fly the gooseneck fitting.
July 29, 2015 I don’t even know if they say 10-4 anymore. Well its here. One of the things we wanted to do was make aerial filming, aerial photography and helicopter charters of any sort somewhat more affordable to anyone. Helicopters aren’t just anywhere in Canada. Its a big country. Well we just made it alot smaller. Now we can take our Aerial Production Unit anywhere in Canada bringing right to your door step. Checkout the Big Rig tab on the services menu. It will be up dated as we go. Hope to be up and running in August. Stay tuned.
July 9, 2015 What seems like an eternity. I finally received our first STC this for the MD500 camera bracket for all MD500 series aircraft. A special thanks to my engineer Phil Croft and TC delegate Jim Watson. An incredible amount of work goes into this process. I wouldn’t have started if I new how much. Not as fun as flying thats for sure. Our STC’s for the Astar and Twinstar brackets should follow shortly. Stay tuned.
A big part of what helicopters do is search and rescue. Well, we were a part of a very important rescue in May - the rescue of grapes. That’s right, grapes! We’ve recently had some chilly mornings with frost here in Ontario and the grape vines are full of buds or new shoots that are very delicate and can be easily damaged from the frost destroying an entire seasons worth of wine production. We hover taxi at a height where we can find warmer air along with a person on the ground measuring temperature throughout the property and draw that air down and displace the lower cooler air. For Vineland Estates Winery this met with resounding success. They suffered no damage while other farms throughout the region suffered damage. You've got to love helicopters and the 500 is perfect for the job. Heaven forbid we have no wine.
