Before the alarm clocks existed, people used nails fixed on candles to wake up. They knew how to calculate the candle burning time and put the nail at the right time. As the candle melted, the nail fell, made noise and woke its owner.

These pieces have hung in my dining room for years - I love both of them, they both speak to me. I finally figured out the artist of kitten is "Meta Pluckebaum". If it's original, it could be worth a couple hundred dollars! Not bad for a $5 estate sale find. The other one is a needlepoint. I don't remember where or when I got it, or how much I paid for it, but I've always felt it's something special too.

I picked up this adorable piece for our spare bedroom today. I have to say it literally makes me happy inside
