Hey folks! A lot of the agencies we work with are in desperate need of donations of hygiene products and larger sized mens clothing at the moment. If you would like to support, please reach out to the agencies individually to find out exactly what they are in need of.

April has been a busy month at Find and we are so grateful for the amazing support we've gotten from the community to help moving families and individuals out of homelessness through the Housing First program into their new safe, comfortable homes. As we continue to navigate life through a pandemic, we know how important home is and that home means safety for a lot of people. We are honored to be able to provide comfort in that safety with donations from our community membe...rs and all those who support us in a myriad of ways. Find is proud to announce that in April we were able to furnish 126 homes with community donations and help 193 people (138 adults and 55 kids) move out of homelessness and into a comfortable space through Housing First. As the months go on, we continue to struggle with inventory levels of love seats, light couches, apartment sized kitchen tables and dressers. They are the most needed items for Housing First and the items we tend to go through very quickly. If you or someone you know has unused/unwanted items in good condition, please consider donating to Find for folks moving out of homelessness. Items can be dropped off any time during regular business hours at 5120 122 street in the parking lot near the tent or you can call for a free pick up for any of the items listed above at 780 988 1717. Please note that pick up times are approximately 2 weeks. This work really does take a community and we thank each and every one of you that has assisted in helping us help those who need it most. From the Housing Workers to our donors, our customers and our community, together we make such a difference each month in the lives of so many vulnerable Edmontonians. Thank you, Edmonton, for supporting our most vulnerable neighbors and fostering a community of love and support when we need it most. A great panel was put together today on Real Talk with Ryan Jespersen about homelessness in our city and what that looks like for especially young people in Edmonton. The conversation started with Margo Long (YESS), Cynthia Puddu (Grant MacEwan), and Chris Beausoleil (Niginan Housing) speaking to struggles of young people facing homelessness, what is in place to support them and some of the new resources that will be available to them in the coming year. The panel then shift...ed to include Cheryl Wiskeyjack (Bent Arrow Traditional Healing Society), Jordan Reiniger (Boylestreet Community Services), and Susan McGee (Homeward Trust) talking about the shift in the homeless sector due to the pandemic and what needs to happen moving forward to make sure everyone has access to their basic human rights: a safe home. The call to action from the panel is heavy on the need to educate ourselves about housing and homelessness in Edmonton, really understanding the possibility and potential of individuals and to keep it going! Definitely a great way to spend 45 mins and gain some knowledge. Tune in at 1:12:30 to watch the panel: https://ryanjespersen.com/

Last week we got a message from a local artist who was looking for the perfect venue to shoot a music video for their newest cover song, "Are You Long Enough To Be My Van?" based on their recent experience of moving. Ellie Heath, of the local sketch comedy troupe, @girlbrain, wrote an incredibly funny and poignant song to the tune of Sheryl Crow's "Strong Enough" and we couldn't get it out of our heads! It was amazing that she wanted to shoot the video at Find and we could...n't wait to see what she would come up with. Here is what she wrote about the experience: "When I last moved homes, Find was the best! Not only did I go there to pick up new things that I needed for my place, I was also able to donate my old furniture, which they re-purpose for retail or provide to people who are transitioning from homelessness. They made the entire process so easy- they were great at communicating and came right to my home to pick up my donated items. This is one of my favourite organizations in our city, especially in financially challenging times such as these. I had an absolute blast using their awesome store as a backdrop for this music video, which my pal Caroline Stokes helped me shoot. I hope everybody, including Sheryl Crow, enjoys my homage to moving day!" We definitely enjoyed it and can't wait to share it with all of you! Check out her video on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/515592925/posts/10160326360912926/?) to or Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/tv/CHd2_-IARrd/?igshid= yogroaadxqh2).
