I always tried to adapt the murals I designed to their space...selecting colours and proportions so they compliment rather than fight with their environment. This guy takes it to a whole new level. Love it!
beautiful and regal tribute
Ever wonder how moulds are created to cast clay figures into bronze? Here are some shots sent to me from Fine Arts Sculpture Centre a foundry in Michigan. Some appendages need to be removed and moulds are then created separately from the body. In the first shot, you can see the armature of pipe and styrofoam I used to hold the clay. Next they coat the figure in several layers of flexible silicone rubber before creating a hard shell from fibreglass. The pieces are matched with registration marks. The clay will be removed from the moulds and then the process of casting begins first with wax. It is laborious work that requires experience and precision.
If I look closely, I could probably pinpoint the moment that I transitioned from seeing myself as just a furniture painter to artist and creative business ow...ner. It’s right around the time that I learned the only thing that was separating me from the women I looked up to was one simple change: consistency. All I had to do was make a choice to wake up every morning and take one more step towards my dreams. I’m telling you all this because I wish I had known sooner that I didn’t have to be perfect and I didn’t have to know everything. Like, how freeing would it have been to know that imperfect progress IS STILL PROGRESS!?! That’s what I want to leave you with today: take it one step at a time and don’t look back. Don’t try to Just put one foot in front of the other and I bet you’ll be amazed at how far your momentum can carry you. Progress. Over. Perfection. You got this!
Dear friends, our Studio’s last and the biggest project this year, Quantum Memories, is opening this weekend at the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne fo...r its 2021 Triennial. The project utilizes the most cutting-edge, publicly available Google AI’s quantum supremacy research data and NVIDIA’s GAN algorithms to explore the possibility of a parallel world by processing approximately 200 million photographs of nature through the lens of artificial intelligence. The spectacular 3D Data Sculpture piece, displayed on an enormous 10 m x 10 m NEC’s media wall, offers an immersive experience that taps into the random fluctuations of quantum noise as a realm of aesthetic possibilities. , #ngv #datasculpture #ai #quantum #nature See more

I remember a graphic art instructor demonstrating how to pull a round brush through our lips to create the perfect tip. Health and safety wasn't a thing back then...we were using lead whites and cadmium red paints and had no idea they were toxic.
Environment and time will mature and change colour of bronze. Below is a photo of a sculpture I took while in Scotland you can see where people have taken to rubbing as they walk by.
Being asked to portray the valiant character of Alex McClelland a cherished son, loving brother, and devoted teammate whose deeply spiritual fight against terminal illness inspired all who knew him, is an honour that has genuinely touched me. Fondly considered by friends as their Angel in the End Zone," these are Alex's words: I love everything about my life. I feel blessed in just so many ways. But if I become just a memory, I hope I am a good one. Thank you Carolanne for providing Alex's incredibly insightful journal, photos and football gear to aid in the production of this clay tribute soon to be cast in bronze. It gave me a little glimmer of what a blessing he was.
Beauty is in the eyes of the...of the...nah...there really is no excuse. Another restoration attempt gone wrong - this time in Palencia Spain. Could it be just a shrewd and canny way to boost tourism?
Finishing touches today on a life-size tribute for an inspiring young man. To say his story did not touch me deeply would be a lie. My heart hurts for all parents who have had children run home ahead of them. <3
Art can be so cathartic. Take for instance the cold blooded rage seen in Gentileschi’s beheading of a rapist. She must have felt vindicated after painting it. Thrilled she’s finally getting the recognition she deserves. A first for female artists...and it only took 400 years (sarcasm intended). https://www.smithsonianmag.com//national-gallery-exhibit/
A whale of a tale...err....tail. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-54780430
Beautiful, heartwarming photo becomes an incredible sculptural tribute. https://m.youtube.com/watch?t=7s&v=tKq4ST5a1sk
Happy Halloween
I have just been accepted to participate in this online exhibition! Not having to transport heavy bronze figures will be good for my hubby's back!
Can you think of a title for this?
Andrew Cuomo recently announced Brooklyn will be erecting a monument honouring Justice Ginsburg until then... https://www.wcjb.com//fearless-girl-statue-pays-tribute-t/
People who know that I began my career as a mural artist have been reaching out to me and asking about paint brands and working on aluminum panels. So I thought I'd share the following tips: If working outdoors, substrate preparation is a must if you want your paint to adhere and last. If working on aluminum composite panels you can find more info here. https://www.muralroutes.ca//uploads/2016/09/Dibond-info.pdf If you are painting directly on a brick wall, I would recommend... lightly power washing before priming. We experimented with several primers and found Zinsser Bulls Eye 123 to have excellent adhesion. The sun will be your mural's worst enemy....ask your favourite paint expert about good quality, high permanency exterior paints. Golden Artist Colors are a nice alternative to work with. They come with permanency and lightfast ratings to make choices easier. The heavy body paints are expensive but go a long way. You can just click on any colour to learn more before ordering. https://www.goldenpaints.com/products/colors/heavy-body When it comes to lightfastness....think of a rainbow. Generally warm colours like oranges and reds have the shortest light waves making them prone to fading the quickest. Golden brand "Pyrrole" orange and red are an excellent choice but stay away from cadmiums or thin transparent colours. If you are working indoors, avoid exterior paint because they contain fungicides and UV protective additives that are not approved for interior use and mess with indoor air quality. Good luck and have fun!
I created these quick studies while at the University of Windsor. Little did I know it would be 33 years before I would sculpt again.
That moment when art both educates and leaves a lasting imprint on the viewer. My bet is the sculptor cried while creating this piece. #FrancoCastelluccio For more insight https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ztg6zBlDzb4
One of my favourite models...okay, she's my daughter...and an independent country artist, and she is going live tonight at 8PM.
A real life Trojan horse.
While attending art classes at the University of Windsor and later at the Center for Creative Studies in Michigan, I would always position myself behind the male models. I was too embarrassed to paint genitals until one class where limited space gave me no alternative and had to sit up front. I rushed through details but my shyness was not permitted by this particular professor who exclaimed loudly in class I wasn't "looking" hard enough at the subject. He grabbed my jaw with his hand and turned my head while pointing out all the "information" I missed. Lesson learned...but I still love sculpting and painting behinds. https://www.cbc.ca//cheeky-contest-has-museum-curators-put
When I sculpt a clay figure I often think to myself how cool it would be if I could make adjustments to my own figure as quickly.
