Inkeri has been a dedicated volunteer pulla baker with our Ladies Auxiliary for 6 years, and has decided to take a well deserved retirement.... Celebrating a milestone. Elle Korpela will join the ranks as a centenarian in 2021 and helps to mark a historical moment in her 100th year. Elle was among the one hundred residents living in the Hoivakoti Nursing Home; a long term care home located at Finlandia Village, to receive a vaccination today. She has lived at Finlandia Village for the last many years, and has been an active member of the Finnish Ladies Auxiliary. Elle was one of the first to consent to accepting a ...vaccine sharing Today’s the day. It’s a very special day. David Munch, CEO Finlandia Village echoed those sentiments. Today’s vaccination of Hoivakoti Nursing Home Residents is an important step forward in the fight to keep COVID-19 out of the long term care home; it’s a game changer. He is quick to celebrate and recognize the efforts of the entire Finlandia team of care heroes sharing They have shown their SISU; grit, determination and strength; each and every day since this journey began almost one year ago. Staff, Residents and their family members; essential caregivers and volunteers have been diligent and careful to follow the guidelines for safe living during COVID. The support of Public Health Sudbury & Districts and their teams throughout this evolution in care has been tremendous and instrumental in our ability to provide the best possible care to our Residents. As Christmas approaches, our hearts are filled with more and more gratitude as our residents have received an outpouring of love from various members in our community. We have received over 1200 Christmas greeting cards, homemade ornaments, Christmas videos, treats, gifts and so much more!! A very special thank you to all community members who have sent a special something, and also to the Finnish Language School, Ecole St. Pierre, Smiles for Seniors, Lasalle Secondary School, Plan A, All Nations Church, Magical Paws, Lockerby Secondary School and MacLeod Public School... Your thoughtfulness, kindness and generosity is greatly appreciated and our folks will truly be very surprised Christmas Day! Kiitos & Hyvää Joulua!

Our Volunteer Appreciation was a little different this year. We had a distanced celebration in the form of pulla delivery, and a special visit to our volunteers who have achieved Years of Service milestones, from 5 to 35! A very special mention to Heleena Heikkila and Erkki Kinos, who have dedicated a beautiful 35 years of volunteer service for Finlandia Village. Congratulations and Kiitos to all of our award recipients and a very special thank you to all of our dedicated volunteers for your kindness, dedication and SISU!

Lest we forget. We Remember. Today is a day to remember. Our Village remembers and honours all those who have served and continue to serve in the Canadian Forces. ... Although our services were different this year, Canadian Flags proudly moved in the wind at all of our building sites, residents and team members took a moment of silence and a special video was played on all lobby monitors in the building. We remember in a special way Finlandia Village Veterans and thank them for their honourable service to our country.
