#barnbaulkwithBrittany I want to share something with y’all, I’ll try to keep it short. A parent asked me the other day about how much it cost to have a hors...e to ride or race I replied don’t do it, unless she is serious He said hell I figured you’d try and convince me to get her one now Here is the thing. I absolutely love horses but so much of my time, my life and my money (oh my lawdddd the money) goes into this and I wouldn’t change a thing but here is what people need to understand. This applies for people with horses currently as well. See this poop fork. It’s made up of several tines to create a working rake. If one tine breaks or is out of place the unit will not correctly work as it should. It may still be usable but it won’t be pretty, it may still kinda work but it won’t work correctly. Imagine each tine is a something to do with a horse. One tine is nutrition- proper feed, hay, water One tine is farrier - good feet are a must One tine is vet- maintenance is a MUST One tine is you- horsemanship riding ability One tine is the horse- how’s he feeling? Did you handle the first three, vet, farrier, nutrition One tine is TACK- bits, bridles, proper saddle, proper pad, sport boots etc. (all these are needed and cost thousands) One tine is - extras and misc - trust me these things will pop up just when you think you’ve got it all figured out. One tine is a trainer for both you and the horse (you can never know too much) The point I’m trying to make is it takes a lot of individual pieces to make a great horse and rider! You may find a unicorn that stays sound and doesn’t require anything but that is why they are called unicorns. They are very rarely seen. Most all horses require maintenance. Say you’ve never done anything strenuous in your life, I bet money you’ve taken medicine, been to the doctor, etc. EVERYONE AND EVERY HORSE NEEDS MAINTENANCE! I feel like this needed to be said. I see nice horses all the time being jerked on, whipped, or sold because they didn’t win lil Suzie a buckle. But you didn’t do your job and listen when your horse was trying to tell you something. Okay I’m done now. Thanks for reading this far if you made it. I could go on and on and on. A horse will change your life but it ain’t for the faint of heart and if you treat em right and keep them happy, they’ll give you their life every day!!!! Enjoy this photo of my poop scoop Edit: I’m literally overwhelmed at the response me and my barn talk received. I can’t tell you how much the shares and kind words mean to me. Horses are so humbling and rewarding. But they are not just a hobby. You 100 percent have to be all in.

The saddest thing I’ve ever seen Is a woman on a horse that does not believe she is good enough to be there. Do not compare yourself. There is only this mome...nt, this horse. Your hands, seat, voice and leg, define the parameters of the entire world for this horse. What anyone else is doing, or has ever done, does NOT matter. Whomever it is that you look up to or feel less than Is in turn, looking up to another rider, wishing to aspire to that level. So be content where you are You are blessed! YOU are your only competition Just be better today than you were yesterday. Try hard for this horse you ride and try hard for yourself. Most of all, enjoy this time; Every moment. Every stride. Every cue that is answered with a response. Cherish this partnership Know, that you are exactly where you are supposed to be --Amye Photo credit Lee Willis

How much weight can a horse carry. in my experience, a horse can carry an infinite amount. They can carry the weight of broken hearts, broken homes, and brok...en bodies. Countless tears sometimes comb their tangled manes. Moments when parents and friends cannot be there to help and hold a person, horses embrace and empower. They carry physical, mental, and emotional handicaps. They carry hopes and dreams; and they will carry the stress from your day when you can't carry it anymore. They carry graduations, they carry new careers, they carry moves away from everything familiar, they carry marriages, they carry divorces, they carry funerals, they carry babys before they are born, and sometimes they carry the mothers who cannot carry their own baby. They carry mistakes, they carry joy, they carry the good and they carry the bad. They carry drugs and addictions, but they also carry the celebrations. They will carry you to success when all you have felt is failure. They will carry you, never knowing the weight of your burdens and triumphs. If you let them, they will carry you through life, and life is hard, life is heavy. But a horse will make you feel weightless under it all.

If anyone is able to donate even a little bit toward the cost of Bear's amputation it would be amazing! With literally 100% income loss for the petting zoo this season, we could really use the help to cover this unexpected cost! As soon as Covid allows us to have an open house and free petting zoo, we look forward to being able to thank everyone in person! https://www.gofundme.com/f/bear039s-amputation

This is William Fox Pitt. One of the legends of British Eventing. Up there with the best. Now look closely at the photo. ... At the horses neck. Do you see it?? A neck strap. What is a 5 eventer doing wearing a neck strap? Google defines a neck strap as "A neck strap is a simple piece of leather that goes around a horse's neck. The rider can hold onto it to increase stability without pulling on the horse's mouth. Neck straps are often seen in show jumping and eventing disciplines, but any rider can use this handy tool" Well a neck strap is not something that we have because we are scared. NO! It is a handy tool to have. A neck strap is helpful, for all aspects of riding! Be it schooling, hacking, jumping or hunting! Me personally over the years have come to love them. Not only on a young horse but my 12yr old mare as well. It changed the way i rode a dressage test! Made me still in the hand and ride from my leg. Also in my lessons it has become a handy tool to use. One that changed the way i worked my horse. There not something that should be feared or you be ashamed of!! Don't get me wrong there great to hold onto when your seeing Sky Floor Sky Floor.... But in a training aspect they are a game changer to some. So... If in a training session you are asked to hold it or put one on. Its not because your rubbish and scared. Its because like so many items in our tack rooms they are simple and EFFECTIVE. So before the long face comes out. Try it. Listen and feel. Your horse may thank you for it! And if top eventers use them to help save their horses mouths why can't you give it a go?

Finnegan Farms is currently taking registrations for our 2020 summer riding camps. We have a maximum of 6 children per week, and are taking extra precautions to make sure that social distancing remains in effect, and all tack and riding equipment is cleaned and sprayed down between riders. Open to ages 7+, our 5-day summer riding camps are a great introduction to horses. Camps run Monday to Friday from 9am - 4pm, and each day is packed full of learning both in and out of the... saddle, including two riding lessons, a theory lesson, and lots of fun and learning in between. We change up the material and split kids into groups based on prior experience, so we have campers that return year after year, as well as participate in several camps in one summer! Most of our riding happens outdoors (weather permitting), and children will not be sharing equipment back and forth during their week with us. We have made sure that all of our theory and craft supplies can be assigned to a student for the week, and will not be shared between kids. Between weeks, everything will be thoroughly sanitized. We have also spaced out our work spaces to six feet so that each child can eat their lunches and do their table activities at their own small table, maintaining a safe distance while being close enough to still enjoy the social aspect of camp! Should the camps not be able to run due to government rules come July and August, any deposits and camp fees will be 100% refunded. We are also carefully monitering and following the guidelines set out by the Government for Day Camps. Camps are $400+GST per week, and the dates are July 6-10, July 13-17, August 3-7, August 10-14, August 17-21, and August 24-28. Please check our our website for more camp info, tons of photos, and the registration forms, or send me a message and I will be happy to send the forms directly to you! http://www.finneganfarmsinc.com/
