Haysam has been with The Shakespeare Company since 2012 and has worked to elevate its main stage productions and outreach programs in Calgary. A graduate of the Birmingham Conservatory for classical training at the Stratford Festival, Haysam spent six seasons as a company member with the Stratford ...Shakespeare Festival of Canada. MARY JANE by Amy Herzog Directed by Barrett Hileman Fire Exit Theatre is accepting submissions for the 2021 production of Mary Jane by Amy Herzog. All actors receive an honorarium for their work. Artists from under-represented or marginalized communities are strongly encouraged to apply.... Rehearsals: Saturday/Sundays Jan 11-April 16, 2021 (mostly Zoom, not everyone will rehearse every weekend) Cohort Rehearsals April 17- 24 (In-person), then: Tech: April 25-28, 2021 Run: April 28-May 2, 2021 (6 performances) Submission Details: Please submit a self-taped audition. Self-tapes should include a slate (name, pronouns, equity status, role you are auditioning for) and 3-4ish pages of any scene from the play Mary Jane by Amy Herzog. You may also include a 60-second contemporary monologue or song if you wish. Videos should not exceed 4ish minutes in length. Please submit headshot, resume, and link to self-tape (YouTube, Vimeo, Google Drive) to [email protected] Self-tape Submission Deadline: Saturday, Dec. 12, 2020 Callbacks: Sunday, December 20, 2020 (in person - if a callback is requested from you, you will be contacted to schedule a time) Covid-19 Protocols: Callback times will be staggered and all participants (actors and team) will be required to wear face masks at all times when not socially distanced. Social distancing will also be enforced while in the waiting room, and participants will be required to sign-in and out of the building. Synopsis: During a rain-drenched summer in New York City, a determined single-mother navigates both the unfathomable and spiritually enlightening aspects of caring for a chronically sick child. Mary Jane is a remarkable and compassionate portrait of one woman striving for grace, and the power of the surprising communities that surround us all. It is written by Pulitzer-prize finalist Amy Herzog and won the 2017 New York Drama Critics’ Circle Award for best play. AUDITION OPPORTUNITY Image of an Unknown Young Woman by Elinor Cook Directed by Eden Hildebrand Ambrose University is accepting submissions for the 2021 production of Image of an Unknown Young Woman by Elinor Cook. This is a university production. The cast will consist of our graduating senior students and select members of the Calgary theatre community. Submissions are open to both non-equity and equity members and an honorarium will be provided. Artists from under-represent...ed or marginalized communities are strongly encouraged to apply, and priority will be given to Black, Indigenous and People of Color artists. Rehearsals: M/T/W/Th 6:30-9:30pm beginning Jan 11, 2021 Tech: March 21-24, 2021 Run: March 25-27, 2021 Submission Details: Self-tapes should include a slate (name, pronouns, equity status, role you are auditioning for) and a 60-second contemporary monologue. A young woman in a yellow dress is shot by the police, and when a video of the shooting goes viral, a revolution begins to stir in a country where the authorities will do anything to suppress it. Ali and Leyla are panicking they uploaded the footage and now the authorities are after them. Across town, Yasmin is desperate to know if her missing mother is still alive. Halfway around the world, a wealthy woman wants to help. As a tornado of dissent and violence spreads, everyone's life is going to change. Roles to be cast: Nia Former political prisoner turned activist. Runs a charity which helps others escape the country’s brutal regime. (30’s-40’s) Candace Recently divorced and finds her bank account growing daily due to her ex-husband’s guilt. Looking to contribute to a greater cause. (50’s) Chorus (seeking one non-binary or male-identifying artist) will play a variety of roles throughout the play. Movement/physical theatre experience an asset. (any age) See more
