Purpose of the Position Firetech Manufacturing Ltd. prides itself as being an innovative designer and manufacturer of custom bags, backpacks, and other sewn products for industrial applications. The Technical Designer is charged with helping to design new products and modifying existing Firetech designs for our clientele. This individual works closely with our Senior Product Designer, Sales & Marketing, and Production Floor staff to assist with the entire design process from ...conception to prototype to production. Reporting to: Senior Product Designer Hours: Full-time (8hrs a day), Mon-Fri, 1 X 15-minute break & 30 minutes for lunch (unpaid). Location: Surrey Facility (travel may be required infrequently). Responsibilities & Duties Under the direction and supervision of the Senior Product Designer, this candidate performs the following tasks: -Create new and edit existing Bills of Materials (BOM’s) for Firetech products. -Convert 3D images into pattern pieces using software for processing by our automated cutting table. -Take photographs and touch up photographs - using a digital SLR and Adobe Photoshop for the purposes of marketing, distribution to customers, and product construction. -Filing and organizing photos for effective and quick reference. -Oversee quality assurance to ensure all products are built to correct specifications and that the quality of workmanship is done to the highest standard. -Assist the Cutting Machine Operator with cutting table operation when required. -Assist the Senior Product Designer with directing and advising Industrial Sewers on the best ways to manufacture our designs. -Assist the Senior Product Designer in the creation of 3D models when required. Other Duties: Working closely with senior management to address issues related to production workflow, product design, and prototype development. Academic & Trade Qualifications -Degree or Diploma in Design or closely related field. -Proficiency with pattern development software, 3D modelling (Rhino), and Adobe Suite. -Photography skills and experience editing photos. -Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite. -Deep understanding of sewing patterns and sewing construction methods. Other Essential Skills -Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision. -Attention to detail to control and monitor costs associated with building our products. -A genuine desire to improve the processes and products produced by Firetech. -Able to learn new skills and an enthusiastic attitude for the work. -An inquisitive mind and desire to grow with the company. -Ability to communicate effectively with others.
