Schools will welcome students back to class for the 2020-21 school year. This means they will reopen under scenario 1 near-normal operations with added healt...h measures in place, including: cleaning surfaces frequently placing hand sanitizers at school entrances and classrooms grouping students in cohorts planning the school day to allow for physical distancing, which could include staggering start times for classes, recesses and lunches To help prevent the spread of COVID-19, all students, staff, parents and school visitors will be expected to check for possible symptoms and health risks daily using a self-screening questionnaire before entering the school. If a COVID-19 case happens, outbreak protocols will be in place to quickly identify and isolate confirmed cases and close contacts. Parents will be notified and public health officials will contact those who were in close contact. School authorities will support students and staff who are required to learn or work from home due to self-isolation. A re-entry toolkit has been developed to help parents and students prepare for the new school year. Learn more about the back to school plan: alberta.ca/returntoschool

Under a renegotiated bilateral agreement with the federal government, we will direct $45 million to provide affordable, accessible, high quality child care for ...Alberta’s families who need it most. A new vision for child care focuses on three key priorities: Affordability Supporting low-income families through higher child care subsidies. Accessibility Redesigning the Inclusive Child Care program for children with special needs. Quality Providing grants for new spaces in areas of high need. The child care subsidy can be accessed by families with an income of up to $75,000, which is the most generous level in the country. More families will have access to $25/day child care. When calculated with pre-COVID enrolment and centre fees data, about 16,000 families will be paying $25 per day or less, up from 7,500 families in the former pilot project.
