Step up for Registered Nurses like Maryann Thomas. Write letters to the editor for better staffing and working conditions.

During an emergency, every second counts. First responders everywhere will agree that having a clearly legible civic number displayed on your property is vital.... Although reflective civic numbers are not mandatory, did you know that they can be made at the Kennebecasis Valley Fire Station while you wait for only $20? This type offers the best visibility. #Quispamsis #Rothesay #KVFD See more

Registered Nurses need everyone’s help. We were in trouble before the pandemic and things are about to get worse.

To all of my NB FB friends, in the coming months, you will be hearing about us Nurses turning to a strike vote. The Government has given us no choice. We need your support. We are the lowest paid nurses in Canada, have been working without a contract going on our 3rd year, worked through this pandemic but were not given a pandemic premium (that other Province nurses were given) as Blaine Higgs said NB Nurses were not working hard enough and there is no incentive to recruit new nurses to replace all of the nurses that will be retiring in the very near future. New Brunswickers, we stood up for you during this Pandemic, now please stand up for us!

What is a paramedic in New Brunswick? We are medical professionals. In truth, we don’t really care about titles when we’re responding to your emergency. Howev...er, there are things we do care about. We care about how sick you are. We care about getting you to the right hospital at the right time. We care about restarting hearts. We care about helping you breathe. We care about helping you fight that allergy. We care about your stroke. We care about alleviating your pain. We care about the fears you have. We care when we have failed you. We care about our community and we care about our families. We care about the risks but we also still care about serving you in a pandemic. We care about pulling you out of that wreckage. We care about stabilizing you and treating your wounds. We care about getting you the mental health assistance you need. We care about accessing the social resources for you to make you safe. We care about connecting you with the Extra-Mural Program. We care about being your advocate. We care about our education and we care about keeping up with current medical science. We care about holding your hand and wiping your tears. We care about what you just lost. We care about what you just heard. We care about your new life and we care about your end of life. No matter that our current union doesn’t care about us and our right to be recognized as Medical Professionals...be assured we still care about you. New Brunswick Paramedics just got word today that their bargaining unit CUPE has requested that the date of the reclassification hearing be pushed back to allow... them more time. To back track a little , we have been running this marathon to reclassification since 2018. In the fall of 2019 , the NB government voted on the subject and it was announced by the health minister that the reclassification would take place on April 1,2020. In February 2020 CUPE NB applied for a motion and submitted an appeal to the NB labour board. Paramedics were given a hearing date of Nov 4-6. CUPE wasn’t happy with this and had applied to have the hearing stalled. Luckily for the NB paramedics, the New Brunswick Union , which will be where we move to , stood up for us making it clear to CUPE that this can’t be stalled any longer. With all this said we need your help more then ever. To help the NB paramedics and support reclassication please like and share our public Facebook page nbparamedics. I would also invite anyone interested in attending the virtual hearing to give your name. The hearing is open to the public and it would be wonderful to have a high attendance. We are all working hard through these unpredictable and unprecedented times. We will continue to render the best care during your times of need and whatever the outcome NB paramedics will always be there for you. See more

It’s World Restart a Heart Day! Public-access defibrillators save lives, and today we recognize all the members of the public who stepped up when there was a me...dical emergency. When minutes matter, you too can become an integral part in the chain of care and help your fellow New Brunswickers when they need it most. Anyone can save the life of someone who has suffered cardiac arrest by calling 911, starting hands-only CPR, and using an AED. See more

Day 11 I’ve been nominated by Derek Michael to do 25 push-ups for 25 days, to hopefully raise awareness for PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), anxiety and... depression that drive people to die by suicide. Today, I nominate Ben Neill The rules are simple: *Once you are nominated your 25 days starts the following day. *Everyday you record yourself doing 25 push-ups even if you have to drop to your knees to get 25. *Every day you must nominate a different person. Let’s try to reach as many people as possible. This act will help in building awareness that there are people who are suffering from a mental illness, and will hopefully encourage those who view this challenge to help if they can, or educate themselves further. For those struggling, you are not alone and we are here for you.

We all have a role to play in slowing the spread of COVID-19. That’s why face masks are now mandatory in most indoor places. This includes: public spaces wh...ere the public and employees interact (retail businesses, malls, service centres, places of worship, restaurants and bars except while eating, etc.) and organized indoor gatherings in public spaces (e.g. weddings, funerals, etc.) common areas like lobbies, elevators and hallways, and public shared spaces including those in private sector and government workspaces; and public transportation. Continuous mask use is still required in seated venues with one metre physical distancing. Previously existing mask policies continue to apply in hospitals, health care settings, public schools and early childhood learning facilities. By taking the necessary precautions like wearing a mask, washing your hands, and physical distancing, we can keep our province in the Yellow stage of recovery, and reduce the impact of a second wave of COVID-19. I protect you. You protect me. Resources for businesses are available on our website including signs that can be printed and posted. https://www2.gnb.ca//corpora/promo/covid-19/resources.html

I heard an awful story yesterday and just had to share. A man choked in a public restaurant a few days ago in peel. No one helped him, everyone is terrified of ...Covid. Sadly the man lost consciousness but paramedics arrived quickly. I pray that he was revived. Please don't let the risk of Covid stop you form being a good Samaritan and saving a life! The likelihood that he had Covid was next to nothing. The likelihood he would die form choking because he was unable to clear his own airway is almost certain. On another note, admissions to the hospital for heart attacks and strokes is down but severity of those coming is up. A medical emergency is always a medical emergency Covid or not. Remember that recovery from a heart attack or stroke depends on early recognition and intervention! Please call 911/EMS when need. The picture below shows how CPR changes during a pandemic (when you don't know the person or why they have lost consciousness). Perform chest compressions only and cover the mouth and nose to catch the release of airborne droplets. Please feel to reach out if you need clarification or have any questions. CPR saves lives (and so do masks).

Enhanced cleanin...g of equipment will be done as well. If you require training for a particular group, please contact us. We are concentrating our efforts on essential health care workers and health care students as well as people requiring training for Worksafe legislation requirements and daycare operators requiring first aid training for their staff as per department of education standards. Throughout this difficult time, the paramedics, emergency medical dispatchers and flight nurses in New Brunswick are working very hard to care for you as effici...ently and as safely as possible and are employing a number of measures to do just that. When you call 911, we will ask you a number of questions to ascertain the likelihood of COVID-19 infection. The paramedics will do a similar thing when they arrive. These measures are in place to safeguard you, your family and our first responders in a province-wide effort to slow the spread of this virus. It also gives us valuable information that helps in getting you properly tested. Upon their arrival, paramedics will take the necessary safety precautions, which may include the wearing of various personal protective equipment. Again, this is for everyone’s benefit and contributes significantly to ‘flattening the curve’. We have included pictures of some of the equipment you may see. Also, please remember that, in this time of isolation and uncertainty, not everything is about COVID-19. We urge you to continue to call 911 just as you did before if you are experiencing any type of emergency. Rest assured, we will keep you safe and the hospitals have protocols and procedures in place to do the same. We would like to thank you for your cooperation and your patience during this time; please know that our professional paramedics are there to help and to be an advocate for your continued good health.
