Our HOPE, LOVE, JOY, and PEACE advent candles have all been lit, and today, we will light the final white candle in the centre the CHRIST candle. Some people are quick to point out that the Advent wreath is a circle with no beginning and no end. Together with all the candles burning, we see a symbol of God’s unending love and faithfulness. We see the soft glow of His gifts of hope, love, joy, and peace filling our lives as we eagerly await His coming! That although this lig...ht is soft and small, one day we will see the radiance of His glory darken the sun and fill the sky! We have seen his glory, and we wait for it again. The glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth Jesus Christ, the brightest revelation of God’s love for us! We light the candle of CHRIST today to recognize that Jesus Christ was born for us! That He came to be with us the Word made flesh. We light this candle of CHRIST to remember that Jesus Christ is coming again!
As we anticipate the birth of Jesus Christ, we have already lit candles of hope, love, and joy as reminders of the promise that Emmanuel is our God with us, and that God graciously gives us these gifts even if they sometimes come in ways that are mysterious to us. On this fourth Sunday of Advent, we light the candle of PEACE. We wait for God’s promises of peace on earth and good will to all. We pray that God’s peace would break through our restless hearts and lead us to Bethlehem, where we can celebrate our Savior’s birth. Today, we light this candle of peace.
Check out this awesome 40 minute Christmas Concert honouring the greatest HOPE ever known! It was held Live yesterday by for King & Country!
Today is the 3rd Sunday of Advent. Today we lit the candle of JOY. We fix our eyes on Jesus Christ, the author and perfecter of our faith. For the joy set before him, he came down to earth and took on our humanity, endured the cross with all its shame and sat down at the right hand of God in heaven. The day is coming when there will be everlasting JOY to the world, for our Lord will come! Let all the earth receive her king! We light this candle of joy in anticipation of that day.
Today we lit our second Advent Candle symbolizing LOVE. John 3:16 says, For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. We light this candle to remember God’s LOVE, which brings joy to the world and peace on earth.
Our theme for Advent this year is Do Not Be Afraid. For many, 2020 has been a year of anxiety, disappointments, doubts, confusion, and fear. Advent is a season of waiting on God’s promises for a redeemed creation. As we wait, we can offer up our fears to God and hold on to HOPE as we hear God’s comfort in angel voices: Do not be afraid.
At tomorrow’s worship service, we look forward to commemorating Reformation Day and celebrating the Lord’s Supper!
An awe inspiring Reformation Day sunrise over First CRC this morning! When morning gilds the skies, my heart awaking cries: May Jesus Christ be praised!
This coming Sunday October 25th at 10am, we will be celebrating 35 years of God's faithfulness to The Gathering Place. Please join us as we praise God for this ministry that is supported by the 3 Christian Reformed Churches( Hope CRC, Bethlehem CRC and First CRC) in Thunder Bay! Please note that this video was created a few months before COVID-19, and we have halted our Little Lambs program until it can be offered safely again in the future.
