Remember to always check the scene to ensure it is safe for you and instruct specific bystanders to get you an AED and first aid kit and to call 911. Do your compressions and breaths. Once you have the AED listen to the audio instructions to securely and properly place it on the victim. When a shock is delivered be sure to not be touching the victim. The AED will tell you to do compressions and to deliver breaths. Remember it is 30 compressions to 2 breaths and you will do 5 cycles or 2 minutes of CPR. Keep your ears open to listen to the AED for when it analyzes the heart and advises if a shock is or is not needed.

These young caregivers don’t always have the knowledge or ability to seek help for themselves. Programs like Young Caregivers Association provides support and empowers young Canadian caregivers to focus on their life while dedicating time for their loved ones.
