Friends of First Lake

If you support the trails around First Lake please take a minute to sign this petition from one of our members David Hughes) to make it safer to access the trails and provide active transportation corridors around Lower Sackville. Our plan is to present it to our councilman (Paul Russell) who will present it to council on our behalf. This should have been done a long time ago so let's make this the year it does happen! Thank you for your support of our work!

The last sections of the First Lake Greenway trail system are finally under construction. The section currently under construction for completion before the end of March is in shown in red. The green and blue sections will be completed next as funding becomes available.

We have at least two beavers at the Sucker Brook end of First Lake. We love to have them around, but, they are being quite industrious about building a dam under the bridge. When they do, the water level in the lake rises up to a foot and falls again after the dam is cleared away. Some of us have been removing the dam material when we see it accumulating. We tried just putting it in the woods beside the trail but it seems the little critters found that too convenient a source... of building material. Last Friday, we removed most of the material (see photos) and piled it where the city could pick it up and dispose of it which they did. If you happen to see material accumulating under the bridge, feel free to remove it and put it on the bank nearest the parking area, or, just post a note on this page and we will go and remove it. We are hoping that we can keep it clear until the ice comes in. Hopefully that will stop or slow down the construction activity.
