This coming Sunday we are taking a look at what should make followers of Jesus happy, and it may not be what you think. It is kind of upside down and backwards, just like the Kingdom of God is. What do you do when you are waiting for something? Like most people, I’ve noticed that the slightest lull or delay in my life initiates a reflex to reach into my pocket and pull out my phone. This is a default action, one that I hardly need to think about anymore. Though, this is something I have been trying to think about changing. Call me crazy, but the other day I intentionally brought a book with me to an office as I expected to wait quite a while to be served. I tried to... redeem that waiting time and make a better use of itI don’t really have anything productive to on my phone anyways! What we do in times of waiting reveals much about our priorities and the default track we set our lives on. Sometimes this waiting is dreadful and burdensome, but other times the waiting is filled with joy in anticipation of something we expect to be great. If we’re honest, this Christmas has probably been somewhat a mix of both for us, or even more the former than the latter. The mother of our Lord and Saviour had a waiting period of her own. We will see in Luke 1:46-56 how Mary responded with joyful worship in her waiting for the fulfillment of the promises she received from God. We have lots to learn from her about praising God while we wait for our lives to return to normal, for this current lockdown to end, to be able to regather as the church, and, most of all, for Christ to come again. This Sunday we are back to livestream only. Though it is not the preferred means to worship, I hope you’ll join us as we hear from God together through his written Word.
