Congratulations Ryan Nelson you had the closest date in the ice out contest!
Time for the annual Bonny Bay ice out contest. This is for any guest booked to stay with us in 2021. Please forward us your guess and if you guess the right date you will win a hat and t-shirt from our Bonny Bay Wear Store here at camp. First come first serve for each date. Attached is the historical ice out dates since 1937 for Wabigoon Lake. Our official ice out is when we can no longer see ice from camp. Good luck!
Another great day catching and releasing Crappie and Walleyes on the Goon. Our nephew caught this healthy 25 Walleye! He caught it in my hole, on his Aunt’s rod, so technically we all get bragging rights (I think...)
Crappie fishing this morning and caught and released a 23 Walleye. Gotta love the Goon!!
Cynthia caught a nice bunch of Wabigoon Crappies this morning. Do you think she should tip her guide (husband)?
It has been a few weeks since we said goodbye to the last of our guests for the 2020 season. With the cabins now all cleaned and winterized we have had time to reflect on our first season as owners of Bonny Bay, and while it was a very tough year, we still find ourselves extremely thankful. We are thankful to our friends in the industry that allowed us to learn from their experiences in owning and operating camps, which led to our choosing Bonny Bay. We are thankful to Len ...and Nancy Davis who provided hands-on ownership transition support and continue to be among our greatest supporters. We are thankful to the staff of the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry for working with us to get established as new operators. We are thankful to our parents, siblings, extended family and friends for their volunteer labour and expertise. We are thankful for the warm welcome of our new neighbours and their tolerance of the noise from our numerous maintenance projects. We are thankful to the many companies that supported us through cabin rentals to house their staff. We are thankful to our Canadian guests, many of whom chose to visit Bonny Bay for the first time. And we are very thankful to our American guests who moved their cancelled 2020 bookings to 2021, ensuring we have the basis for a strong 2021 season. From the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU ALL!! See more
Congratulations to the hunters that took part in our 2020 whitetail deer hunt. Despite the challenging weather conditions, which included strong winds and near record high temperatures, we were still able to achieve an 80% success rate on our private land hunts. Some of our hunters experienced getting either their first ever or largest ever deer, and we are proud to be a part of making those memories for such a great group of people. A big thank you to the landowners that allow us to host a sustainable hunt on their properties. We couldn’t offer this experience without your support and your strong land and game management practices. Here are some pics of the larger bucks harvested this year, as well as some of the ones that outsmarted us!
Bonny Bay Camp wants to thank Shane Kelm and his wife Jaci of Dryden for providing on-site wild game processing services for our 2020 deer hunting guests. Thanks for the great work Shane and Jaci!
I love to watch the sunrise!
Some stunning pictures taken by our neighbour Kate.
We were able to use our time this summer to make some renovations around camp. The new bright red bait house should help you find your way home at the end of a long day out on the water! We are excited for you all to enjoy our new beach area!
The sunsets around here never get old!
The Canada/USA border closure has been extended to September 21, 2020. Looking forward to meeting everyone next year! Hope you all stay safe and healthy!
The muskies were hot yesterday! This was one out of two beauties caught, measuring out at 46 inches! Congrats Ritch!
Here is a memory from 3 years ago today. Gary Cook caught and released this beautiful 55 musky!!
Fun day on the Goon with my little brother and Bonny Bay Bo the fishing dog!
We are excited to share our new logo design with our Bonny Bay friends!
It has recently been announced the extension of the Canada/U.S border closure until August 21. This summer has allowed us to use this time to make some new and improved renovations around camp! Including a new Minnow house and revamped beach area! Stay tuned for pictures! We would like to thank everyone for supporting us during these difficult times!! We are looking forward to meeting you all in the near future. https://www.ckdr.net//border-closure-extended-one-more-mo/
Gotta love the view after the storm!
Len caught a nice 35 Northern yesterday! So exhilarating catching these big beauties!
The sunsets at Bonny Bay are breathtaking!
The view doesn’t get much better than this! Special thanks to Jeff for the amazing pictures!
Another nice catch on Wabigoon!
Katie and I have been doing some learning on how to keep you all safe! This course provides us with education how to properly clean and disinfect surfaces for covid-19.
We miss seeing your smiling faces around! So here’s a memory from this time last year, this 32 1/2 walleye was caught and released by Laura. What is the biggest fish you have ever caught?
What a beautiful night!
Cynthia and I took a quick break from camp chores for a dock fish derby. I got schooled by my lovely partner 20 to 2!
The two Len’s spent the morning out marking hazards on the lake with floating jugs. A tough day at the office!
The US/Canada border closure has been extended till June 20th. All reservations and deposits will be moved to the same week next year. I'll be contacting everyone by phone to update them 2 weeks before their reservation. Hope to see everyone soon!
First catch of the day!
Today is officially ice out day at Bonny Bay! Congratulations Darth Muncy on being the first guest to pick May 7th. You can pick up your prize when you visit us this summer.
This is my go-to recipe when I am cooking for people that are not huge fans of eating fish. I hope you all enjoy these Bonny Bay Fish Cakes! Fish Cakes 1) Poach 4 walleye fillets in a shallow pan with water and fresh dill for about 5 minutes or until the fish flakes when you try to lift it from the water. Once poached, remove from the water and flake the fish in a bowl. Allow the flaked fish to cool in the refrigerator for 30 minutes. ... 2) Add 1 cup of cold mashed potatoes (I use instant), 1/4 cups breadcrumbs, 1 egg, 1 tbsp lemon zest, and 1/4 tsp of both salt and cayenne pepper to the flaked fish. Combine these ingredients and form into whatever size cakes you prefer. I make mine the size of hamburgers when served as a main dish, and 1/2 that size when served as an appetizer. 3) Fry the fish cakes in shallow canola oil, about 3 minutes per side and let rest on paper towel. Tartar Sauce 1) 1 cup mayonnaise 2) 2 tbsp relish (green or sweet) 3) 1 TBSP hot sauce (I prefer Sriracha) 4) 1/3 TSP fresh ground black pepper 5) Combine the above Serve the fish cakes over leaf lettuce and/or parsley garnish and top with tartar sauce. Then get ready to make some more because they will go fast!
The ice is melting fast!
What a beautiful day!
Where’s Bambi?
The ice is starting to melt!
Look what we found when the snow melted.

Here is a simple and very popular appetizer recipe that was first made for us almost 20 years ago by a friend while we were camping. Both Cynthia and I were instantly hooked on it, and we make it a few times a year for our family as a treat. Bacon Wrapped Walleye Ingredients:... -1 pound of bacon, cut in half. -1 bottle of Diana’s Chicken and Rib BBQ Sauce -Cubed walleye/crappie or perch -Wood or metal skewers Directions 1) Cook the bacon slices until they are about half done 2) Wrap the cubed fish in bacon and place on the skewer 3) Place the full skewers in a lined baking tray and drizzle the bbq sauce over them 4) Cook for 15-20 minutes at 325-350 degrees. Turn them after 10 minutes and apply more bbq sauce. 5) Serve and enjoy the compliments! Note: These are also great done on the bbq.
Fresh fish for supper tonight!
It’s our third day at Bonny Bay and we have our first guests!
Retirement and Sale of Bonny Bay Camp It is with mixed emotions that Nancy and I announce our retirement and the sale of Bonny Bay effective March 25, 2020. Bonny Bay has been a labour of love for us for the past 20 years. We would like to thank our staff, family, and friends for their hard work in helping making Bonny Bay such a beautiful place. We would like to thank our incredible and loyal guests who quickly became, and will always remain, our good friends. It is ...with our guests in mind that we carefully selected the new owners of Bonny Bay. It was very important to us that we could ensure our guests the same commitment to service, quality and personal attention that we prided ourselves on. We are pleased to be passing the torch to Len and Cynthia Hoey, and we will be working closely with them this year to smoothly transition operations. Please join us in welcoming Len and Cynthia to Bonny Bay! Greetings from the new owners of Bonny Bay Hello, we are Len and Cynthia Hoey, the proud new owners of Bonny Bay Camp. We are both avid outdoor enthusiasts, born and raised in Northwestern Ontario. It has long been our dream to own and operate such a business, and we have spent the last few years searching for just the right place to call our own. For us it was important to find a camp with quality fishing and hunting, with well maintained buildings and grounds, and, most importantly, a strong history of highly satisfied guests. We found all of this in Bonny Bay and with owners Len and Nancy Davis. Over the past 20 years they have proudly built Bonny Bay Camp, providing the highest level of service and experiences to their fishing and hunting guests. Cynthia and I are committed to building on the Davis’s legacy, and we look forward to personally welcoming all new and returning guests to Bonny Bay in 2020!

Here is a video of the Mother Lynx and the two young ones up by Cabins 6,7 and 8!
I just had a interesting encounter. I was up checking some of our cabins and I found a mother and two young Lynx wandering around up there. I shot a couple of short video’s, the first one just had one young Lynx in it. A few minutes later Mom and another young one came back and they walked out the driveway together! I can only post one video at a time so I will post the family video next.
This is a cool little video! I was just up checking some of our cabins and I encountered this young Lynx! I wish I could have got a little better video but all and all it was nice to see!
Happy Birthday to George Coles! It is always fun having you around camp!
