Fire right by Hole In the Wall, Floodwaters of Marmion Lake. We got to see the whole thing first hand today while out fishing. Had to strategically maneuver the boat coming home to stay out of their way while they were scooping water! Great job filming the action Mike!

Hello to all our guests and friends. We hope everyone is coping well and staying safe with all that is happening in society between the virus, protests, looting, and riots. Just wanted to post an update on the current US/Canada border situation. As of yesterday the decision was made by the US and Canadian governments to keep the border closed until later July. We don't know an exact day yet, just heard 'later' July at this point. For all our guests tha...t come up from the US, don't worry about your deposits, we are carrying 100% of your deposit to either a date for later this summer or applying it towards a trip for next year. We heard some recommendations at splitting the deposits 50/50 or so with our guests but feel it is unfair for us to keep any of the deposit as we understand 99 percent of our scheduled groups would be here if they were allowed to. We have been in contact with most of our May/June groups and have things mostly sorted out. Our July groups can start thinking about alternative plans and let us know if there are any dates later this year or next year you would like to reserve. Our scheduled Canadian groups can still plan to come as scheduled, we may possibly have to switch your groups to a different cabin as we are only planning to have a couple cabins open for the season at this time. I know everyone is facing tough times as well as us here at Crystal Beach. Businesses across both the US and Canada are suffering right now and we will be doing our best to hang in there to be fully open as soon as all this is over and the border is open again. We will update this page again when we hear that the border will be opening which will be in July at the earliest now. Contact us if you have any questions or want to adjust your reservations. Thank you and hang in there! Jody and Tonya See more

Happy Memorial Day to all our guests South of the border! Times are tough right now but hang in there and it will surely get better. Most of you have heard already that the May 21 border opening was pushed ahead another month to June 21. Most guests have already rescheduled their May and June reservations. I am sure the governments will be evaluating the situation a week or so prior to the new date, so we should have somewhat of an idea to what will happen as we appr...oach the 21st. Of course, most of our guests will get current updates thru the media outlets as we approach that deadline, but If unsure of what the latest border restrictions are please don't hesitate to contact us. With our current closure, I have had time to get out on the water to get a little more-than-usual fishing time in myself. Water temps in most lakes now are in the upper 60's and it is looking to be an early bass spawn this season. A lot of bass are already on beds with many more cruising the shallows. I believe within the next week they will be spawning, which seems to be over a week earlier than average. The walleye spawn finished up over opener weekend which fell on the 16th this year, so that seemed to be running fairly close to normal. Lake trout are very shallow yet, we even caught one bass fishing with tubes in 7 foot of water! If the current weather patterns hold up, I am guessing the trout may start to move deeper by the middle of June this year. Big pike are in the shallows on most lakes now, we ended up landing some nice 40-45 inchers the past couple days while we were actually out pursuing bass. We are seeing a good number of 40 plus inch fish just 'sun bathing' as well. It has been an unusually warm May again this year, and temps thru the rest of the month are looking to be well above average. Once we hear that the border will be opening up, we will contact all of our scheduled guests for an update. We will also post any more updates here on our Crystal Beach page, whether it is for opening of the borders or a closure extension. Good luck to everyone out fishing now wherever you are able to wet a line! See more

Ice out was May 6 this year on our lake, which seems to be a few days earlier than normal. We did have over a foot less ice this winter, only abou 25 inches or so, which is probably a big factor in it leaving a little early. The smaller lakes in the area have been free of ice for about a week now. We had a lot of freezing nights thru April, so it was actually a slow melt this year. Lake levels are down a fair bit right now and fire hazards are high in the area. Hope we have some spring rains soon to bring water levels back up in all the local lakes. Wishing everyone to stay safe and healthy during these trying times and we are hoping to be able to open up for business soon!

Here is a good article that aids in understanding how weather and the barometer effect fish feeding times. Probably doesn't matter a whole lot to most of us as we just head out onto the water whenever we get time too, regardless of what the barometer is doing. However, this will give some insight as to how fish feeding habits change throughout a day on the water, and from day to day. Just something to read while we get thru this tough 'stay at home' time! https://www.in-fisherman.com//understanding-barome/154358

Just a quick update to all our valued guests and friends. We realize everyone is going thru hard times with the real life struggle of the Coronavirus effecting communities around the country as I write this. We will continue to post on our Facebook page any travel/border crossing updates as we get notice of them. In another month or so, we should have a pretty good notion as to what direction this pandemic is going and how it will influence any travel and v...acation plans for all of us. As it stands right now, we are planning on operating as normal starting mid May as long as travel and border restrictions are lifted. Again, we should know more towards the end of April and can re-evaluate the circumstances at that time. Everyone keep practicing the best recommended actions to take in your day to day life and we wish all of our friends to stay healthy! On a brighter side, the weather has turned and snow has been disappearing rapidly the past couple days. I included a few photos from today of current conditions here at Crystal Beach Resort. With weather like this, most of our snow should be melted within a week or so. Ice is still holding to the banks pretty strong, but once it breaks from shore it won't last long as we ended up with only about 2 feet of ice this year due to the milder winter. Spring is just around the corner and better times will be coming!

Nope that's not YUM Scent! Some of our folks formulated hand sanitizer that we're donating to local hospitals, clinics, nursing homes and other places. We're ...proud of them for coming up with the idea, and real excited to help folks in the Fort Smith, AR area! Hope you're safe out there.... See more

Quarantine can kiss my ass

Here is the current situation in regards to border crossing at this time. As of right now there is a temporary ban for all border crossing unless it is for commerce or work. We are hoping that in the next month or so this ban is lifted and the spring/summer crossing traffic will be back to normal for all who have vacations planned. No need to panic about your summer vacation plans at this time, we are still over 2 months away for most fisherman to come up. We will update our facebook site as new policies are enacted. https://www.cbc.ca//polit/canada-us-border-deal-1.5501289

MEANWHILE STILL FISHING AND ENJOYING THE OUTDOORS!

Crystal Beach Resort 05.07.2020

We just had a cabin opening from a schedule change arise for the dates June 20-26 th (departing on the 26th). This is in one of our larger 3 bedroom cabins which will accommodate groups from 4-8 guests. Late June is one of the best times of the year to fish anywhere across Northern Ontario, so if you are thinking about a trip in the Atikokan region, we do have 1 opening for this coming spring! We are already mostly booked up for June 2021, so this is a rare opportunity if anyone wants to take advantage of some prime time fishing this spring! Just give us a call or send and email if you would like any more information! FISH ON! 807-929-1156 [email protected]

Below is a link to a short video on all the effort that goes into producing Lakemaster maps and why they are the best on the market! These map cards are produced locally in Northern Minnesota. Every year they are getting more data for Canadian Lakes that haven't been accurately mapped yet. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sBijG4dkuns
