First look at some photos from my solo canoe trip down the North French River. I began the trip from the Floodwood River, portaging on seldom-used trails throug...h small lakes and beaver swamps to reach the headwaters. The going was tough for much of this portion of the journey. I was rewarded with an epic catch of Pickerel (Walleye) at the end of the slogging which included hauling up and Aldar-choked creek for 30km. On the way home, we trekked up a beautiful, clear water tributary to fish. We only had one spinner each and were using 24$ rod / reel combos we bought in Wawa that morning as we’d left all our gear in the bush. We managed to hook into some Rainbow Trout and Brook Trout too and cooked it up riverside. We had to get creative in the cooking as we had no pots and pans, opting to use a flat rock and another method with sticks. My hand was pretty swollen by the end of the day, despite my best efforts to not use it. It was a great day in all and, despite the disappointment of having to bail on our trip, we made the best out of the situation. Check it out and enjoy!
